While I was letting the barrel cool on my AR 6.5 CM which I was load testing I shot my LR CM and I noticed there was a lot of brass laying around. I saw some clean brass and checked it out....30-06. Then I wondered....I was shooting at 200 yards....hum...could I hit a 30-06 shell casing at two hundred yards. So I started thinking about how I could get it to stand up. I grabbed my stapler and walked down to the target area. I looked around to see if there was a way and noticed a shotgun shell wad laying on the ground. Long story short I stapled it to the plywood and set the 30-06 shell casing inside it. Worked perfectly! Went back to the bench and loaded my LR CM and took aim and fired...

Here's a couple of pics. The first is the rifle, bullet and the 30.06 brass, the second is a close up. Notice the dent in the neck...that's where I hit it. Thought it was kinda cool!

You must have gotten bored with shooting tiny groups over and over!!! I love to do this while at the range, thumb tacks, flies, etc. I don't hit most of them but it breaks up the boredom !!!

Didn't see any but did see deer and hog tracks when I walked down to put up targets.

Nice shooting! What's next, work on hitting the primer, or reseating a bullet?

Very nice!!!

I tell people all the time. I am bored shooting at 100 yards. I only use it for conforming zero. All the fun happens out shooting further.

I did take down my target once by shooting the 4 pins holding my target in place at 100 yards. On the low right pin, I hit it slightly off center, and kind of stapled the pin in sideways to the board holding it up. The guy next to me said my target was falling down. I told him I know, I was shooting at the pins to take it down. He looked at me like, whooa!
