Your pic above made me remember something about my deer...no blood from the mouth or nose. It's almost as if I never hit a lung. Did you check when you cleaned him? I would have thought that you would have caught the front of them, but looks like you tucked it pretty close to the shoulder. We actually didn't check that closely come to think of it. I didn't split the rib cage since he's going on the wall and we didn't worry about cleaning it out except for the heart. But there were bubbles in the blood trail so I'm sure I got some lung. And since he was perfectly broadside, I'm assuming I got both. Like I said, it was weird. But who cares? That sucker's in the freezer and at the taxi now! I pick up the jaw bones on Friday.

Picked up the antlers and jaw bones last night. Comparing to a known 4 1/2 jaw taken from the buck I shot on the same property in 2010, this one has more wear. I'm no authority on deer aging, but I think he's older, maybe 5 1/2. Thoughts?

Bump for the afternoon crowd to see if anyone would be kind enough to offer a tooth evaluation.
I did some research on scoring techniques and since I now only had the antlers and skull cap to fight versus the whole head and cape, I went back and re-scored using a cable. I also marked the point where each tine meets the main beam. Biggest change was a longer right main beam, but inside shrunk, and outside grew. Final score comes out to 149 2/8 gross, 143 4/8 net.

Final update. I was finally able to check the cameras from the day prior and day of the kill. As it turns out, this buck was at my buddy's stand where these pics were taken about 45 minutes before I shot it. If my buddy had gotten out of bed that morning and faced the cold and wind, he might have been the one celebrating. The pics were taken by an old dying WGI IR4 and I had to lighten them up a bit.

Kewl, I would print that top photo and put it by the mount. You did show this to your buddy right? Snooze you loose I may print the pic. He thought we already had pics of this buck but we didn't and I was certain of it. After I shot him, my buddy told me, "I thought you were crazy for hunting in this weather, but I wish I'd gone out now." This week, when I was down there for the rifle season looking for a doe and I saw that he was at his stand right before I shot him, and told him so, he was VERY quiet. These were the first (and last pics) we ever got of this buck. You see, him and the guys I'm mostly hunting with down there are gun hunters, and the gun season is always after the rut, starting the first Wednesday after Thanksgiving every year. They get lucky every few years and shoot a big deer post-rut that is still searching for the last does, but they really like their guns. When I'm bow hunting, I've mostly got the place to myself. I've tried to tell them about focusing on the bow season, and my buddy bow hunts occasionally, but I think I only got through to one of them. He started asking all kinds of questions about bows.

Hey, they are helping you to finance your own hunting ground LOL, I hunted with guys like that, some really didnt care if they took a deer, some where happy sitting by the fire in camp, all good in the end. As long as they don't have a sissy fit when a good deer is taken, all is good.

Nice story and a very nice buck! It's take a lot of horn to make 150" on an 8 pt.
