Might try a rattle can of Krylon first. You might be able to get the effect you desire for few dollars.

member on here does the hydro dip had my tikka t3 done in matte black..just picked it up last week will see how holds up.cost me 150.00

Paint or another type of coating is your only option. Solid color films for the hydro dip do not exist

For the gunstock, go to a hobby shop and ask about HobbyPoxy paint. It is a slow-curing epoxy paint that is very hard, very durable and comes in a plethora of colors.
The slower any epoxy cures, the tougher it's going to be when it finally does.
I did a stock for an old Ruger 10-22 with HobbyPoxy black, then gave the cured paint a matte finish with 400 grit wetordry paper and it came out very attractive, very durable.
It's the hardest, toughest paint that I have ever seen, anywhere.
