Was sitting peacefully in my Redneck Blind, 10 feet up, reading a book and watching for deer (or a pig, or a coyote). Off to my right comes my 'herd bull', the nice 9 point. He's got his neck out and nose down and he's tracking women. Heading roughly North. Soon after that I see 4 does move to my corn pile from the North. The big buck should show up soon, when he hits their scent trail. Yup, here he comes (10 or 15 minutes later). Still got the look of lust on his face. He runs up among the girls and commences to eating corn. And he ate. And he ate. And he ate some more. Then he got that look of luv again and does scattered in all directions. He chased them a bit and went back to the corn. I guess the Rut is tiring my old herd bull out. But I'm not gonna shoot him. I want him to father chillun all over my place. Last I saw him before it got too dark, he had jumped a fence and was chasing a doe, both of them at high speed, way out into my hay field. Maybe I should get some high protein stuff to give the guy some more energy. Any recommendations on a protein feed?
I tell ya, life is good. I found the cull buck day before yesterday, and had backstrap for supper that night.
I sure hope you guys are also having a nice time and a nice season.
Not my monkeys, not my circus...
