I get that they're proving a point but that just seems unsafe. Can he tell exactly where those bullets went?

The brakes help alot. On my 300 win mag after the brake it felt like a 243. Could shoot all day. Without it that's another story.

Most hunting guides won't allow them, and with good reason.

I've tried muzzle brakes and Magna-Port... Both do what they are supposed to, and both magnify the noise level, some worse than others.

In the end, I've found that I'd rather just handle the recoil and let it go at that. No more brakes for me.

Everyone on the range or on the hunt near rifle fire should be wearing hearing protection anyway, brake or no brake.

A guide tells me "it's not allowed" and I will be speaking to him about a refund and going home.

Sometimes you have to be able to hear, while hunting. Walking around in the wild with your ears stopped up is a good way to get hurt. In many situations if you cannot hear the animal, you will not be aware that they are there. It's also good to be able to hear things like, "Hey, don't step on that snake!" and with hunting guides it is not uncommon to have whispered conversations while spotting game.

I check the rules while I'm shopping for a hunt, and don't wait until I've paid up and drove out there to discover what's up.

Personally, I'm not all that traumatized by occasional recoil. No more muzzle brakes for me, I've been there and done that. They're just not worth the trouble, it's another useless gadget that's not really necessary.

Of course he can. He knows where the rifle is pointed.

I must disagree, for me they are very useful...in fact they are a necessity.
