Thanks guys. I listened to everyone's advice and took pieces of all of it. Ended up getting a bunch of free lumber so I went old school got my tools out and build a nice box blind for about $100.00 and some sweat equity. Scouted and put it on the best pond. Got it installed just in time to hunt it on the last day of the first split and had a fun hunt. Ruffed up a mallard drake and hen. It was only two birds but it was the first two birds I've killed on my own set up with out the assistance of a guide or a more experienced hunter's assistance. What made it even sweeter was I was shooting my old A5 Magnum 20 and dropped the two birds with three shots (was channeling my Pops on that one). Had several groups buzz my setup but didn't commit so i know I've got to sharpen my skillz but hey...you got to walk before you can run. So all in all it was pretty stinking rewarding. Thanks for all the input. I don't care what anyone says bout all ya'll. Ya'll are ok in my book.

cheers

Thanks. Spent way more time prepping than actually going...with three kiddos it is hard to peel away. Really looking forward to the 2nd split.

You need to ask for a jerk string, wonder duck or pulsator for Christmas.

Water movement is key

Used the academy jerk string for four decoy Which helped but I think you are right on the pulsator. When you forget to work it is when you are getting the fly by. Takes some of the error out of it. A lot of the ones that buzzed were really hauling it. Looks like they were on their way to somewhere else but came in for a peak. They were in and out so quick not sure if they really wanted to be there so I definitely need to work on the enticing part. But the positive is that the ducks were all flying over the pond in the same general direction along the creek it was built on. They also all came from behind the blind so we didn't see them coming in. it made it tough to want to pass shoot at them which I think is good. It

That looks like a nice blind for being your first time. Well done!
