I have a very small place, (50 Acres), and was thinking about putting a few Black Bucks on it. I was told that they will not jump a 4' goat wire fence unless pushed very hard. Anyone know if this is true. I would hate to invest all the time and money to do it and then watch my Black Bucks run to the nearest fence and jump it.

We have a herd of +/- 30 in S. TX, I have never seen one do it, but that's not to say they couldn't. We placed 4' fencing around certain areas of the property to keep them out and not seen any jump the fence yet, even watched a buck bounce off the fence trying to get through it when we spooked it.

I would worry more about the predators coming through the fence than the blackbucks jumping over it.

No experience with them personally but I have an uncle that has shot several of them on his hill country lease. He said he has watched them for a long period of time try to find a way to crawl through or under a 4' sheep and goat net wire fence and never try to jump it.

You see them once a year...right now.

Your talking about bringing in more food for them now. So you will be seeing more of them in the area at some point. We didn't see bobcats in our area at all when I was growing up where I'm at now. The year the high fence was put up we caught 9. We see or kill one every other year or so since then. Coyotes were always here but they did try to hang around more. If you go with high fence you won't have to worry about them going over it so much. They can easily go over a 4' fence. I have seen them climb in a corner on the high fence to get out when they knew I was chasing them and could not find a hole quick enough to get out.

If you've seen one coyote I would imagine there are others. I would definitely be concerned with the bobcat, if for no other reason than it will prey on the young.

Thanks for the insight. I want to put up a 4' goat wire fence so that the white tail bucks and does can still jump it and into my property. Someone said that I would need a 5' fence, but I'm afraid that the does might not want to jump it and would just go else where leading the bucks with them.

I have close to 10 hd of blackbuck in a half acre pen that's cattle panel they do fine in there and get used to you after awhile when I put feed out for them they love the berry flavored deer nuggets, but when I was in there once looking at the fawns an male did jump out and he hung around the pen for a very long time and with the coyotes if they get a small hole they will kill the herd,

Will a white tail doe jump a 5 foot fence and leave her fawn on the other side of the fence while she eats at the feeder. The feeder is not visible from the fence and about 150 yards away.

I had a WT doe have a fawn in with my Ibex. The fence is about 6'2" high. She would jump in and out of the small pasture to nurse the fawn.

My parents live in a subdivision with about 1 acre lots. They have rural property around them with a lot of deer. For the past several years every year we will have a doe jump into the back yard and drop its fawns then leave and come back off and on to check on them. Its safer in a fenced yard with no do than out in the "wild" and momma doe knows it. The fawns literally didn't leave the yard for about 2 months. Finally my dad opened the gate and chased them out because they were going to take care of my dog for a few days when I went out of town.

Yes, without hesitation. One of our fences is 5' and the doe will jump to feed while the fawns stay on the other side waiting on her to return.

Here is the fence behind a buck

As far as the OP, we have BB on our place and never seen them jump but they can find some holes, even in the new fences.

I would start with a few, cause they have young ones twice per year. 1-2 bucks and 2-4 female MAX. The numbers will get out of hand quickly. I started with 3 bucks and 5 females with one having a little just born female within days of release. Of those 2 bucks got out and 2 females got out of an 800 acre HF. So we bought another male and the 2 fought like crazy and only one lived. We started with 1 buck and 3 older females with one younger female. In 5 years we had 85-90 head.

I'm pretty sure I've seen one clear a decent fence.

Bobcats will take full grown blackbuck - I didn't believe it myself until we found a bobcat kill the day after a neighbor told me they would and I didnt believe him (karma)

BB can jump a 4 foot fence, but they don't really know how to do it on purpose (i have watched spooked bucks clear one easily, but then they couldn't get back with the herd). They WILL find a pig hole in no time, and in my experience, if they can get their head through, they will push on through.
