This is a deer we have watched for 3 years. I posted a thread a few weeks ago about him.
I checked the game cams Monday afternoon and seen where he was on there with 2 does. I took my gun and sat in that blind that evening.
We have never seen any deer move across a dry pond bed, so I wasn't prepared for them to come that way. It happened very quickly.
He was trailing 2 does at 5:00 pm, and I had a small window. I didn't make a great shot. Followed up with another one, breaking his front right leg, and tried to get a 3rd in him before he hit the thick woods.
We found blood but we decided to not push him. I called a friend/ TPWD biologist if he could assist me this morning.
We met at 6:00, and hit the trail. Within an hour and only 200 yards from where we quit trailing him the dogs got him up and I was able to put one in him that ended the chase.
Glad he his not suffering and glad we backed out and brought the dogs in.
