Found this guy on camera today...had no seen him before. If you can zoom in on his back left leg in the second and third pictures it's obvious injury and the leg appears to be atrophied. This is a good deer for VA (my property is only 150 acres an surrounded by small tracks that shoot any legal buck). I'm guessing mid 120's due to tine length and probably 3 1/2 years old. Once these VA bucks in my area get 3 1/2 they start breeding alot and are more visible and unfortunately get shot more often than not.

Because of the injury I think I am going to try and get my daughter to hunt him. Thoughts?

You are real close, got him at 127. He is definitely injured.

Not uncommon for a buck that has lost a fight to get hooked trying to get out of dodge. Your guess of a poor shot is also highly possible. I think the mid 120's (or even better) is a good guess on score.

stxranchman, I never made a guess at the cause of the injury. But I did not think it looked recent.

With those tall tines I think he scores closer to 130. A great buck for your daughter. up

I like him. Great deer for most folks around these parts. Would be a really good deer for your Daughter. Good luck with him...Nice looking hunting area too. Where are all the cactus and Mesquite brush?...Just kidding. It's nice to see some pretty country that doesn't poke, scratch, puncture, sting, or bite. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like a nice one for Virginia! My BIL was stationed in Norfolk and they hunted mid-state and that buck looks better than most the photos he showed me.

Great looking buck. I think you short-changed him on score though. He looks like a mid 30s buck to me.

Well. we went hunting this evening and killed a buck...but not the tall tined 9 point. This old crab claw 5x5 came out at about 20 minutes before the end of legal shooting time. I told my daughter to shoot him with the muzzleloader...82 yds ...this is an old deer I have on tral cameras...short tines and a dominate deer.

Sorry for the poor pictures but it was dark.

Here is a pic of him on trail camera from two nights ago
