Reading somewhere on the net where they we're having issues with the 10 x scopes they were issued.. Anyone know what snipers are issued?

Depends on the branch of military. Army is running Leupold MK8, Marines use Schmitt and Bender and Leupold, seals use NightForce. That's just what I remember off the top of my head though.

I also know how to write in cursive, but why make things slower and more difficult?

It's just in testing like many other tools they have to try out.

Now you're making me feel old.

But that does help prove my point. I predict the MOA will forever leave the hands of U.S. Snipers in every branch.

I'm going to keep writing in cursive just to confuse the younger generation when they try to read it.

How well do the US snipers do in civilian competitions?

interesting.... as a generalization not in the to 10....... BUT they hold there own I think mostly because comps are games you learn to play and most active guys just show up "blind" and do the match.

I've only seen one active guy win first..... and that was a while back

There was a episode of shooting usa on that was dedicated to the Bushnell brawl at rifles only a while back that had a amu sniper competing. He didn't do as well as one would think. He also used a 308 which was a bit of a handicap and as said he was used to silhouette size steel not moa size.

That LP MK 8 glass is as good as it gets IMO however, Nightforce is hard to beat for its toughness. Not sure there is a wrong answer with either of these.

They do well, but many of us have put more points on the board after two days than military Snipers. They train to hit minute of man, we train to hit minute of angle. I visited with two, in July in NW Oklahoma. They told me last year they got their a$$es handed to them, then they went back to their unit and told the new guys that thought since they had their tab they we hot chit, that they had better learn to shoot smaller, because they saw lots of civilians do it repeatedly.

I personally know several active and previous snipers who I competed with. Some of the active snipers use their issued gear and military ammo. When they go up against guys who run a fully custom rifle with ammo tuned to their rifle that shoot a fast 6mm or 6.5mm bullet that has half the drop and half the wind drift, they are already at a disadvantage. Some of the previous snipers build a custom rig and load their ammo for it, and are on a level playing field, and do quite well. But I have also seen some newbies come to a match and couldn't hit the impact berm at 400 to 600 yards.

But on the flip side, and a civilian asked to do the other duties a trained sniper does, and we'd fail big time. Shooting is only a small part of what they do.

Most those guys are handicapped from the get go, ammo, rifles, bullets etc.
Even with the handicap they still hold there own because of fundamentals.

I competed at both matches where they filmed. One of the guys was running factory 168 SMK ammo out to 1K yards, and was freakin' awesome! Some of those guys can shoot!

I'm surprised the 168gr was still stabilized at that elevation. I knew the guy was good as your not a member of the AMU for being a slouch.

You beat me to it. up

My buddy came back and said he was humbled using his issued stuff. Now that he is out, he has since upgraded. We got together and hooked him up as a welcome home present.

No way I would make it through what he did. Hell I can't sit still for more the two minutes
