Thinking about having the barrel cut down to 22" so it would be handier with a suppressor on the end. ANybody with any experience?

Not a direct apples to apples comparison, but when I cut my .375 H&H Whitworth back from 24" to 22", I lost 65 fps with my favorite 300 gr load. That would be approx. 32 fps per inch of shortening. The .300 WM might be more or less, but I'm betting that it won't be far off.

Just one man's opinion, but 24" (or 26", tops) is about right for the .300 Winny. I currently own two....my Douglas barreled rig is 24"; my Krieger is 25".

some suppressors require the minimum barrel length to be 24" on a magnum caliber.

Spec out the suppressor first before cutting to 22

Have done a couple at 20, but be sure to spec the suppressor for pressures, had a suppressor shop yesterday tell me that they could not handle a 300 win under 22 inches because of pressures.

Thanks guys will definitely check that, good points. Think I'm going to stick with 24"

At any rate, I would configure the rifle the way you want it and then just learn your holdovers out to the distance you plan on shooting.
