So on Sunday morning at the lease, I went down to adjust the decoys and noticed a redhead hen swimming around the dekes. She was not one bit afraid of me, maybe because she saw us shoot on Saturday, and just hung out. She would swim all the way up to the bank and just stare at my dog who was sitting beside my layout. My dog was shaking like a leaf and probably thinking "shoot that dam bird". This happened for a good 20 minutes or so before she scooted away. Very strange.

Redheads are far from being the Einsteins of the duck world.

several seasons back, we had a flock of 8 or so reds come flying into the deks, myself and the other 3 shooters all jumped up and fired only dropping 1 hen red. Not kidding, that same flock came back around and decoyed 3 more times before we finished our limit and the flock. gotta love them reds!

Wounded would be scared and more than likely dive and try to swim away... you know, that thing where only their nostrils are out of the water and all you see is a little wake.

They are just that dumb. A few years ago I took my son and a few buddies with their dad to a big pond. I went with one dad to one end just to get the stragglers and sent all the boys with another dad to hunt the dekes. Like somebody else said, a group decoyed and they dropped 3, came to us and we dropped a couple, flew back to the dekes and they dropped a couple of more, then came by use again for us to pick up our last 2. On the way home my son said, "Ya know dad, there is a duck dumber than a teal."

Last year we passed on a group cuz we already had our limit of them. So they just hung out with their new plastic snobby buddies. A group of greys came in, we get up out of our layouts and drop a bunch of them. All the booming and commotion, dux dropping dead all around them, dog in the water... and they just swam around like nothing happened.

dunce

Last year we were building a blind after teal season...generator, saws, hammers...the whole bit. A GWT swam around for about 20 minutes in front of the blind we were working on. 15 yards away from all of this and it was loafing, feeding, preening. I was amazed at how dumb they can be sometimes.
