The wife and I guide on a ranch in Childress county and this year things have been looking pretty good so I was excited to get this year off with a bang. Had a client come in and I took him to the quarter section blind for the opener where we have been seeing some really nice bucks. Had two does and nice young 8 show up right after daylight and I was hopeful for one of the big boys. About 30 min after sunrise I see 3 yotes making there way across the wheat field. They stop about 260 yards out so I get my nocks out and take a peek at what they are doing

I felt physically ill watching them pick at the remains of one of our 3 yr old bucks that had looked to be a stud in few years. Of course because I was guiding so I couldn't shoot them bang bang bang bang Ended up seeing a total of 6 yotes cross that field but didn't want to spook the deer so I had to just watch realmad and of course the big boys didn't show.

The next morning about 9 this sucker made the mistake of chasing another of our young bucks so I told him to play dead rifle and he did. Good Coyote!

Guess I know what I'll be doing every time I go up there for a while

The client was impressed with the way I train coyotes to play dead from a running start to dead in 1 second at 240 yards. He just kept laughing about how all 4 feet were horizontal upon impact of the bullet he thought that was to cool.

Those are some big yotes. Sad to see the remains of such an up and coming buck being eaten by those bastages.

I would think maybe the deer was wounded or sick for coyotes to go after him but who really knows. Crappy deal either way.

The client is a recovering alcoholic,6 years sober, so that would probably not have been a good idea grin When we were at the range he shakes so bad ,because of all the drinking over the years, that we determined we needed to keep his shots inside 100 really inside 75 would be better. I think his grouping at 100 was just inside of 6" and just to make sure I shot the gun and grouped inside 1"
The bad part is at one point while watching them all three lined up and all I kept thinking was BOOM! I'm not sure how many I would have got with a 25-06 at 260yards but sure would have liked to find out. I'm guessing that round would have penetrated 2 of them but not sure if it would have had the stuff to get to the third. Would have been a great time to have my 338 Lapua out there rifle
