I went Deer hunting this weekend. I was hoping for a buck but took a doe. My elderly neighbors asked for some deer meat as their freezer was empty and he could not hunt. I had an opportunity to shoot two does with one shot. I fired my 300 win mag and hit the first deer and she dropped. The second ran off. The first deer had no exit wound. I was shooting the Remmington 150 gr. I would have thought the bullet would have easily passed through. I am not a gun expert and the 300 win mag was a gift.

I was hunting in Wheeler county. Any thoughts. I only hit ribs. Further when we had her strung up her chest cavity had bile looking fluid. I hit her just below the spine above the shoulder. well enough forward to miss the stomach and intestines. Anyone else come across this?

You lost me at trying to kill 2 deer with one shot.....

That's a fast load with a light for caliber bullet. That's not exactly a recipe for excessive penetration. Regardless, it's not a great idea to try to shoot two deer with one bullet. As you've just experienced, penetration is just too unpredictable to rely on two clean kills.

2 does is usually by accident! My 7mm WM is more of a High Shoulder Sledge hammer , than a pass thru rifle! I've been trying to sell it being I rarely hunt New Mexico anymore! $84.99 for 20 rounds is kinda high!

Just not good hunting ethics. Maybe MAYBE if it's a double neck shot. Much more likely to over penetrate, but even that's not a good idea.

I did shoot 2 turkeys once with one shot from a rifle, but a turkey is a lot easier to get a pass through. But I did it when I was a kid. Not sure I would take that chance now.

How close were they?

I agree two deer with one shot is a bad idea but to answer the original question, that light of a bullet traveling that fast is likely to break apart on impact with even light bone and your sacrificing penetration for speed and lower recoil unless you're shooting ammo designed for deep penetration such as the swift a frame or barns x
