Keep up the strong work. You just might get every public spot named before the season split comes.

Some never learn. Duck ID's got to be getting better though.

Why would someone give you solid info when you keep ignoring the rest of the good advice given to you on here?

Here is some advice. Stop shooting grebes and pintail hens and you'll go far.

Search and ask all you want, but you cant beat the "sticky" thread at the top of this forum. The work has been done, and I for one am very appreciative of this:

TX public opportunities!

alright hotel boy, I'll try to answer your question...

you find information out about hunting areas by going out there and looking around. Look at the area on satellite, find some areas that might look interesting. Head out there and look at those areas, walk around and investigate. You gotta put in the work, being spoon fed everything will get you no where.

why is naming lakes and spots bad? We all know that anyone can use Google to look up a lake and even find a list of every lake in Texas. Lets say I did my homework and scouted, which by the time you add in fuel and time its not cheap, and I am smashing ducks out at Sam Houston. Now if I post pictures and start talking about how I am seeing 1000's of birds and shooting limits every hunt at Sam Houston what do you think will happen? Every bellboy and car hop in Texas will want to check out Sam Houston. Once that hunting pressure starts to increase the birds find somewhere else to stay, and my honey hole is ruined.

People that participate on this forum are only a small fraction of the people that see and read these post. When people google lake names guess what comes up, forum threads. Word can spread fast when an area is good, and when it does its ruined.

now go put out more beagles for my free continental breakfast!!

I was not asking to post the information on here I asked to pm me.. also I am not asking to be spoon fed, just a starting point. And I do put in time scouting, I just have not had a chance to get out here yet. And I am not naming smaller less known areas, as I know this can increase pressure. But a place like sam houston will do no harm in just mentioning the name... and like I said above I asked for a PM NOT for information to be posted in the thread itself...

And hotel boy? Haha was that supposed to offend me?

Hotel boy aka lake namer thanks you for taking the time to respond. I will not post information about specific lakes in the future

Hogman,

Which of those above named lakes have ducks on them right now and where exactly are the public access points? I'm not new to public waterfowl hunting, I'm just lazy. I should mention that I'll be going there right at legal shooting time and setting up a good 100yds away from the guy with the biggest spread of decoys so that hopefully my bad calling will pull some ducks off and over to me so I can skybust them with Xperts. Please

PM me the complete list and include information on what type and how many ducks you're seeing out there. That way I won't tell anybody where the honey holes are. Thanks!

P.S. I almost included my sob-story of why I can't scout and hunt very often, but that's okay, I'm just going to expect you to give me everything up front.

Personally back when I was hunting a certain lake north and east of Denton I could have cared less if anyone said anything on a public forum about what lake I was hunting. I dont much think that the mentioning of a lake on a public forum is going to threaten my spots by a bunch of Barneys unless my spot is less than 100 yards from an access point. Nobody EVER hunted the water I was hunting at that lake and if I had given an approximate are I was hunting in even then less than 1% of those hunting that lake would have come within half a mile of where I was hunting. As a matter of fact it was always my opinion that more people around the stupid parts of the lake without any skills in the first place kept the birds moving and I knew where the birds on the North half of that lake were going to settle in.

Just my .02.

HAHA, I do not set up close to people; I know my calling is bad, and I do not want to ruin the experience for the other hunters. I do want to be close enough to hear their calls so I can learn from them and try to mimic their good calling. YouTube is good but it doe snot show real world and what is truly working.

As far as sky busting, I do not take shots just to shoot, and if the bird is our of reach I won't take the shot. Over the past two days I waited until they were coming in to try to lad before I shot. Although the last one flew in right after I retrieved the other duck, and saw me and never came in for the landing, when he turned I knew it was at my max range but I took the shot anyway, luckily it winged him enough to have him fall and then I was able to finish him off with one more shot.

Also I was only asking for basic information, as if it's even worth scouting yet or should I concentrate scouting efforts in another area. Not looking for a detailed map of honey holes, figuring that out is part of the fun. But like I said I will stick to basic questions about duck hunting in general and not about lakes. I learned my lesson.

But keep the licks coming if you want I can take it!

Scooter, there aren't any ducks on those lakes. You wouldn't have to set up next to me I would.lwt you hunt beside us. Like it was said earlier. Most dynasty guys won't walk further than 100 yards past the ramp. As soon as cold weather gets here you won't even see them at all.

Ask that kid from Abilene if naming lakes hurts your hunting spots

Lots of them have too much money- I saw (and obviously heard) an airboat over the weekend on a public lake that you really don't even need a mud motor on... seriously. My hunting partner was less than amused at the noise- he said "if you can afford an airboat, you can afford a lease or at least a trip to the coast to use the airboat properly"... Bingo.
