I saw this deer on Thursday morning just after daylight. I was very excited, but was OK with the fact that it may be the first and last time to ever see him.
Just after daylight this morning, a group of 3 does and 2 fawns hopped out of the woods into the field I was overlooking. A buck ran out into the field, but turned back into the woods before I could tell just what he was.
About ten minutes latter, the sun began to shine on the very top of the hill in the field. I looked up and 'Ol Big Boy was standing in the sun literally glowing. From 350 yards, I could see his antlers. He had pushed another big doe into the field and she was at a trot, coming down the hill. I recognized him immediately. I got excited and reached for my gun. Then the worst thing possible happened, I dropped it and it landed on the eyepiece of my scope. I thought "OH Lord!! The biggest deer I have ever had the opportunity to shoot just stepped out and I have just wacked my scope. I prayed "Please Lord, let it not be off!" The buck began to trot down the hill, stopping about 180 yards out. I took a deep breath and squeezed the trigger. At the sound of the shot, he hit the ground!!
I bolted out of my stand and sprinted 200 yard yelling "Thank You Jesus!! with every breath. I was so excited.
I called my wife and left a message, called my dad and left a message, and began to take pictures, texting them to my coworkers.
He is a clean 8. 22 inch beams, 9 inch G2s, 7 inch G3s and 4 inch brows. I guessed him between 125 and 130. I am very pleased with him.
