Ok so I got a new Nikon bdl at end of last year and cabelas mounted and bore sighted it... I go to shoot it yesterday and at 50 yards it's bout 2 inches or so high... So I back up to bout 85 yards and it shoots even higher.. Almost off my board actually.. I did a little adjusting at 50 and got it lower but still when I go further out it shoots higher not lower?!!!... What the heck is the deal... All mounts are tight

But how does it pattern? Bore sighting is just general anyway and sometimes only "remotely" close. Nothing like waiting until the day before the opener eeks333

I think under the circumstances, if you could get it to "zero" at 50 yards, then you may be safe to try a 100 yard shot......

I'd get the BIGGEST target/piece of paper I could, and head out to the 100yds. range. ALWAYS check your scope mounts to see IF they are loose.

It patterned good.. And yes this afternoon I'm gonna get a big target area and see what's going on.. I've just never seen one be a couple inches high at 50-60 yards and keep getting higher as I moved back...

If you think about it, that would be the expected trajectory. Any bullet that shoots high at 50 yds will still be climbing at 100, assuming the scope being mounted 1.5" above the bore.

Try this: get your rifle EXACTLY zeroed at 50 yards. Then move to 100 with a standard target and adjust the scope to your liking, say 2-3" high at 100 yds. Now, you're set!

It sounds like it was bore sighted incorrectly. They probably dialed the scope to intersect with the bore line at a few feet instead of making sure the bore line was low at that distance as it should have been. Like Dawaba stated, just adjust your point of impact down until it's dead on at 50 and that should get you very close to where you need to be.

All bore sight devices are different. Some adjust really high, some low. The only way you really know is to bore sight it yourself and then shoot to see how close you are. I had bore sight that had to be sighted low in order to be anywhere close when actually sighted.

Correcto, want to be 1-2" low at 50, meaning about on at 100. If high at 50, will be higher at 100.
