Do you load as you go, in other words just load enough to keep you in business the next time you shoot or do you keep a stock pile loaded?

I just finished loading 100 rds of 6.5 CM for my target rifle and have almost 500 rds loaded now... I normally shoot between 25-50 rds each time I go to the range with it. Got me to wondering how everyone approaches loading....

I'll keep 50 or so each of the calibers I don't shoot that often (270 and 308). The 260 gets a lot of work, so I'll have about 100 on hand, and the same with the 220. The 223 really gets shot a bunch, so I'll have maybe 200 of them. I live where I hunt and shoot, so loading up more not a problem.

I usually wait till I have around fifty rounds of the same era brass and and then do all of them if I have a load it likes. Usually have 250+ for my target rifles, 100+ for hunting rifles, 3000+ for 223 and 2000+ for 204 prarie dog shooter.

Wow, looks like I am way 'underbulleted' compared to headhunter. It'd take me a long time to run through a few thousand rounds, though I could use up a couple hundred rounds from time to time. Heck, I keep changing bullets, so I don't want a huge supply of ammo loaded with any one bullet.

Funny, because I'm a last minute reloader (for my personal ammo). All my shooting buddies knew I would be up late loading ammo the night before leaving to go to a match. I try to keep enough ammo on hand with my other calibers to use as I need them.

I typically load the week I plan on shooting. I load them long (.010) then do a final seat the morning of or at the range.

Seems I'm always loading for something.

When I get a load perfected I usually load a stock pile of them. I shoot often so I'm always loading something, it never ends. Always trying to make it better.

I keep a stock pile. I have enough ammo for my two main hunting rifles to last 5-8 years. I have several thousand rounds of plinking 223 loaded. Lots of pistol ammo as well. Once I get in the mood to reload, I tend to reload a lot to capitalize my time and to have it on hand. Don;t even want to talk about how much shotgun ammo I have on hand at the moment.

Once I get a load as perfected as I can I load until I run out of components....

I like the idea of not having to worry about having ammo on hand incase something last minute pops up; or possible changes I consistency between lots of components.

For hunting loads I'll keep at least 50 ready to go. I save the brass and reload when I've shot about 10 or so rounds. I'm always 'practicing' at the range at the ranch so, the 50 will just about last until Christmas. After the season, I start with new powder/bullets and start the process over.
Thinking the next time I'm going for 8 lbs of powder and more than 200 bullets like I normally do so I can load from the same powder lots.

Pay it forward - Kids are the future.

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

I generally try to keep enough loaded ammo on hand to start and end my own war. And enough components to replace all of that as well.

I can't load until I'm out of components...I buy for the barrel and no way do I have that many pieces of brass. Normally I start with 100 pieces of brass per barrel and cull through them. I normally end up with around 90 good pieces and I'll use them until I'm done with the barrel.

So at absolute best I never have over 90 pieces loaded for each gun and let me tell you that is extremely rare for me to have them all loaded at once.

I've got 500 pieces for the Creedmoor. 300 have had brass prep finished, 200 have been loaded and half of thosr have been shot once. I like to have 100 rounds loaded on standby.

The 22-250 is usually a mad scramble to get loaded a few days before the prairie dog trip where I take 500 rounds. But I like to have 100 rounds on standby.

The 7 Rem mag is reserved for special occasions so if I have 20 rounds loaded and ready for it, I'm happy. Being a compressed load I don't want to load a bunch up that will sit for a while.

I have 300 pieces of Lapua brass for my 243 that I use for everything. Just got two hundred of them and the plan is to have it all loaded and reload as I shoot through 100 at a time.

Aside from a few oddball calibers that do not get shot much, I will never get caught up loading all my brass, and if I do I will buy more. Typical range trip...
Me, 150 rounds
Daughter 200
son 200
Wife 100
So 650 rounds of various handgun ammo. If any of them bring a friend or 2 along, that can double. This just handgun, if the rifles and shotguns come along I load even more. Not counting the .22s because I do not reload that.
I am always scrounging brass and lead, have to cast my own to afford it. Loading is my hobby, and sometimes I get caught up and have every piece of brass in a particular caliber loaded, but not for long.
Son and his buddies once went through a .30 ammo can full of loose .9mm ammo in one afternoon.

He's a benchrester and therfore employs some type of Voo-Doo in his loading...

Here is some reading about cold welding http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?topic=3785592.0

Google bullet cold weld for a whole bunch of additional information.

I'm not sure I buy into all of it but one thing I do know is it can't hurt. I have had some sit a month or so and when I do my final seat there is more pressure on some than the others. So I believe there might be something to it.

Keep in mind, I'm playing a game of thousandths not moa or minute of deer.
