How much better so they work than the Styrofoam plugs for a buck? I got a pair of custom molded ear plugs done at a gun show years back. I think that I gave $20 but it might have been $30. My CRS is acting up today. Anyway, they are worth every dollar I paid. Being molded to the ear, they really do block the sound. And yes, better than the $1.00 plugs. Now, do remember that the inner ear picks up a lot of sound thru the skull bone around the ear. When I am shooting indoors I will put muffs on over the plugs.

i had mine done at an audiologist for 35. Appt was 35, so I paid a total of 70. I would not use the do it yourself kind. I tried it and the professionally made are worth the extra money paid.

Have you tried the sonic defender ear plugs? They work really well. If you keep the plug in it really blocks out the sound. Out allows you to hear conversation, but then shuts down on load noise impulses like gun shots. http://www.amazon.com/Surefire-Sonic-Def...=sonic+defender

Tis Blesssed with good hearing yet. a good friend, up in elderly years, as far as i know realy didn't hunt, yet his hearing was pretty much gone. its not just the hunting that causes loss of hearing. on the thread, do understand value of the ear plugs. place worked, we used the Styrofoam ear plugs. 1minnute in that place with out ear plugs, would do more dammage than all the shooting i've done without ear plugs.

Good to know, I been on the fence about it but will shop around.

Contact Darrin Allen @ 979-219-0286 (SoundGuard Custom Hearing Protection). He makes custon-fiited plugs, $50 for a solid pair (that block everything) and $75 for a filtered pair that still allow some sound, but block out loud noises. I've had a filtered pair for 5+ years now and still work great. Can also mold plugs with ear buds, headphones, etc. (for an aditional charge). He's in Houston, but traveles around the state quite a bit to 4-H events, shooting events, etc., and also makes them for fire depts, police, etc.
