 Hunting with Daughter during rut.. how would you answer

Couple of years ago my daughter took her first doe. We collected the deer and got on the skinniung rack pretty quickly... Now my daughter was about 9 at the time and had seen a couple of dead animals before... On thus occasion it would appear the doe had been bred within the hour or so... Enough to have coiught my daughters ateention in the plumbing area.... All swollen and "gooey". When asked why it looks like that.. What would be your reply??

Tell her that the deer just finished a little "mommy & daddy" time, or whatever other colorful euphemism that you use to describe that "time" between you adults.

A few years ago, when sitting in the stand with my son, a doe crossed the meadow we were looking out over. I said let's look for a buck chasing her. He asked what would he do if he caught her. and we had The Talk...

My son was 10 when we watched a buck mount a doe. He wanted to know what he was doing with the doe. We also had the talk. Love nature talks!

You have to tell her the truth… Explain to her that the doe had relations with a buck... And now she will never hear from that buck again… Now she will have raise the babies on her own with no help from the daddy buck

Okay. It happened. We were driving out the gate and a buck was just standing there. Then the doe started running and the buck was running her in circles and then up and down the treeline. I new better than to stop but I here "What's he doing to her?". Daughter, son and Grandpa were in the car. My dad snorted trying to hold in the laughter, looked at me and said "Well answer them" with a big old grin on his face.

We've already had that talk with our 8 & 9 year olds...living on a farm with cattle seems to speed that up a bit but hey, like has already been mentioned there are worse ways for kids to find out the facts of life

The best question from my son was "How long will he chase her around?" I wanted to say "Until he gets what he wants" but I cleaned it up a bit.
