This is one of our shooters for this year. Everyone is pretty good at whitetails by now so lets try something new on for size. If we get him on the ground (shouldn't be a problem he hits this feeder 2-3 times a day) the person with the closest score will get a free ball cap sent to them. You have to be the first person to guess the score of course and the contest ends when he hits the ground

Nice buck, but he's only 3.5. I'd let him get a bit more grey on the muzzle. But as far as score goes:

Got a 12 pack that say's if you pull his jawbone he's 4.5 max. That's a "hit the protein twice a day" paunch, not a age paunch IMHO. Hopefully txvarminter will have this guy aged and scored by the county biologist. That way we've got an impartial scorer on the hat, and the biologist gets some data for his records. We work closely with our local biologist and get every buck we harvest aged, scored and tissue sampled. They don't have near the data on the mule deer herds as they do on white tails across the state.

I'm not doubting your records. But I have also got alot of experience observing, aging and harvesting MD bucks. 3.5 year old bucks don't grow antlers like that. It takes them 2-3 more years to get to the same antler growth of full maturity compared to a white tail. Most MD bucks don't fully mature until 8-9 years old.

And those pictures don't show how much gray or white the front of his face has. And my opinion on his age is not based upon his paunch. There is more to the story then that when aging a deer WT or MD.

If I lose I'll deliver the beer cold to your ranch. Then we can compare pictures and stories of past Mule Deer hunts.
