I have owned a few but never been a big fan of ar's. With that said I am looking at getting one in the next few months maybe. I want something of high quality but not quite sure if I should build it or buy it. If you had to buy a ready made rifle what would it be. With quality being number one.

Everyone will have their favorite but any of those 3 will be quality rifles.. I got a great deal on a DD so that's what I've got, wouldn't hesitate to own either of the other 2..
I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

All of those are quality, but personally I'd build so you get it exactly the way you want the first time instead of buying a factory rifle and then putting another $500 in parts in it to get it the way you want and then having parts left over.
Of course if you're going in with the intention of maybe not keeping it id buy factory, you won't get near your investment back on a custom built gun as you will with a factory. There are a couple in the classifieds right now that are quality custom built guns with all top of the line parts that aren't selling and probably won't sell for what the guys got in them.

Ditto what they said. If you might sell it later, go with a factory gun because they sell MUCH easier. If you will keep it, build it how you want it.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

all of the above.
At some point in the AR world, I think there comes a time of diminishing returns for most people. Meaning, 99% of people are going to be completely happy with a DD (I am) or even a RRA, and spending the additional money on a Larue (no matter how bad-a they are) is not going to make a huge difference.

It really depends on what you want out of an AR
Do you want something to play around with and flip if you don't like? Go with a used JP, LaRue, Noveske, Wilson Combat, Les Baer or DD/BCM if you drop a half level. You probably won't lose much if you flip it
Do you want a guaranteed great rifle and are willing to pay for it? Pick up a new one of the above
Do you want the best rifle possible at the best price? Built it:
Pick up a matched MEGA receiver set ($450)
Shillen/saturn/lilja/Krieger/Hart barrel (400-500) - should have a matched headspaced bolt too
Geissele trigger (200)
LPK without trigger (40)
Upper parts kit (25)
Grip (20)
Stock, buffer tube kit (80-250, let's say 150)
Free float rail (150 - 300)
low pro gas block and tube (45)
BCG - 150-210 (with or without bolt)
Doing the math, that's <=$1700 for what will be a kick [censored] AR

I would say weather you build one or buy factory will have more to do with what you will be doing with it than anything.

No better way to learn the AR system then to build. I'm sure u have buds that know how. Mif not, start reading. I would suggest building your lower to what you want than get a quality builder to complete the upper for you. It will be what you want and not what you have to buy. Many put together with good parts properly will out shoot any of those listed. Then check out other calibers. Having a lower with multiple uppers gives you a lot of possibilities.
But of luck.

If you want a really nice AR "built" by someone that has "been there, done that," look no further than Andrew Brady of Lone Star Armory. LSA is located in FW and Andrew builds some really nice rifles based on his machined receiver sets.

IMO: put together a lower and buy a completed upper. The lower you will more than likely upgrade any way(trigger, grip, buttstock, possibly even saftey if you want an ambi one). I put together my lowers and buy completed uppers.

Check out Texas Black Rifle Co. They are made in Shiner. My AR was biult with mainly TBRC parts and it is awesome. Now they only sell complete rifles through Shield Tactical located in Shiner

I own two right now, Sig .223 and DPMS 6.5 CM, and I sold one, Colt .223, in order to buy the 6.5 CM. Personally I think you really need to decide what you are trying to achieve with it? Self defense? Paper punching? Hunting? Accuracy? Etc.
The Sig is for self defense while the 6.5 CM is for hunting. As for accuracy with the 6.5 CM I have achieved .75 five shot groups.
I'm really happy with both of them!
