I'm going to us a Lyman Great Plains .54 cal. I load it with 90 gr Goex FFg and round ball. I'm having a custom Hawken built in .62 cal., but it won't be ready until May.

I pretty much use a muzzle loader throughout the entire season. I have "a few" frontstuffers and have been known to use different ones each day, sometimes even a different one for the morning and evening hunt.

Muzzy is a broadhead. I'll use a TML (traditional Muzzleloader) .54 flintlock. 90 gr Goex FFg .535 lead round ball.

The answer is FLINTLOCK! Now, what was the question?

rofl U must have thought i was in the wrong Form. was using term muzzy, for short back in the 70's. back worken on a load with Tripple Se7en. got a book with chart that compairs Goex, what I like ta use, mine is older than dirt, did take hog with it couple years ago with wrong charge, forgot to change measure from pistal to rifle, & the synthetic that starts with p, flunked spelling. hard ta find the Goex in stores. been testing it out with New Orleeans Ace. its cleaner shooting, duh, more modern powder. tried ta get muzzleloader hog hunt going on WMA last year, no takers. should have posted here. any ways best wishes flag

wow....that's a nice collection of smokers

I've got a reproduction hawken .54cal....I don't hunt with it as often as I'd like. I need to shoot it more than what I do. but I generally load it with 90grn of pyrodex RS with a 435grn tc maxi hunter on top. I've taken deer and hog with it in the past. shoots well.

cheers he does have nice collection, had been looking for a .45 flint Kentucky for years ta match my side lock. whin had the money, couldn't't find one. then few years back found one, just didn't have the money, it was less than $200.00. got some of the modern rifles .270, .243, & 30-30 just ta name few. nothen wrong with the newer guns. in-lines big differance, powder, same with round ball & mini & maxi balls. still use the round ball, am giving up acrucy, same as whin free hand vs bench shooting. target vs live. best wishes. will post if i get something keep your head held high & your powder dry tis working on me spelling, android can be a hemhroid in the warrior rofl typed in astroid & it shows warrior, rofl at times. like pappy say's: makes me look dumber than i realy am flag

Dang Colt, I think I need a drink after reading your last two posts. nuts

Like you, I have nothing against modern firearms including inlines. I'm just glad people get out there and hunt. However, I have always liked sidelocks. I like the way they look and it is fun making them perform to their utmost potential.

cooler weather setting in, trying ta decide weather ta use me Goex powder, that's older than dirt, scratch yet did take hog on OSBWMA few years back, even though made a blunder, forgot ta switch my measure from postal ta rifle. bout a 20 yrds shot, didn't even have ta reload. or go with the Tripple Se7en will give little more range.. more worried bout my limitations than rifles rofl just gotta figure out a good load. trial & error start off with lighter charge. best wishes safe hunten flag

I only hunt with one of my Knight disc extremes in 50 cal. or my new Redemption. My go to load is 110 gr of BH 209, a Hornady 300 gr SST with EZ load sabot and a federal 209A Primer. That combo accounted for 4 whitetails and 12 feral hogs last year. Lot more fun and satisfaction working up loads and proving them. I shoot a lot more than I ever did with centerfires.

Nice muzzleloaders guys! Im going to pull out my cva optima, i bough a couple years ago. I was using 777 pellets, but it just wasnt up to par accuracy wise using hornady 250 sst. I bought me a jug of blackorn 209 and the blackhorn nipple. Started at 70 grains by weight to work up a load and stoped at 84, the max load. My accuracy kept getting better the hotter i ran them. It thumps on both ends now, should be moving around the 2100 fps mark or so. Cleaned the barrel and put it up. I was just thinking about pulling her out and busting something with it. Im running the federal 209 a, which suppose to be one of the hottest shotgun primers. Works great and no crud in barrel at all after shooting 15 times! I also ordered the shims for the firing pin bushing to do a light crush on my primers, which stops almost all blowback around the primer. I have a zeiss conquest 3-9 on her i had laying around. For the price, she shoots better then some of my cenertfire rifles i have. To much fun.
