I just signed my son up and it looks like some really good hunting for cheap! Not sure how the stats are at getting your name picked work out, but will see. I know it will all depend on the hunt as for how many apply, but some hunts that the deadline to apply has already passed are still open to apply. This leads me to believe they did not fill all the spots. This could be great news since I lost my lease when it sold.

My 17 yr. old has hunted with the TYHP for 5 years now. He has gone on 4 hunts and was drawn for another but could not go. He is going on a hunt in 2 weeks. The hunts are great. They are mainly doe hunts on high fence ranches. Which is fine with us because my wife can't eat beef but she can eat deer. You will see more quality bucks than you can ever imagine. Bring a camera. Just because the deadline has passed doesn't mean there are still spots open. All the hunt masters are real good with the kids and real safety minded. Get ready to wear orange all the time except when you are in bed or the shower. We put in for hunts that are within a 6 hour drive. If you have any other questions just ask. Good luck

I'm hosting a hunt on my place. The deadline was this past Friday, There was quite a few kids lined up for the spots but I suspect that may be you can sign up for more than one hunt.

I've done this type of hunt on my own for a number of years, selecting kids locally, with the help of my TPWD GW. I decided to turn the event of to the TYH. So far all my contact with the individuals that administer the landowner side of the program have been professional and a pleasure to work with.

I've always had 100% success on the deer hunts I ran, either a doe or spike as defined by the ARs with several hogs also taken. This was only a single afternoon hunt. With the TYH being an entire weekend, I expect everyone to go home with a doe, spike, and at least one hog.

Great program, wish I had more time to do more hunts than I do as a Huntmaster with TYHP. If there is a land owner wanting to participate let me know, or if any of you have questions I will do my best to answer them.

I am sorely disappointed in the TYHP! My son was drawn for a youth hunt in Hixon and was super excited about it. He just turned 11 and this was going to be his b-day present. I work in Nigeria and am coming home next week and WAS scheduled to hunt next weekend. Because I work in Africa, and we all know everyone who has ever been to Africa is a carrier of Ebola, I was told we are not welcome. Now I could understand if I was coming from Sierra Leonne, or Liberia as those countries have Ebola coming out the wazoo! But Nigeria is one of the leading countries in the area in containing the virus. And has been declared Ebola free since Sept 1. The only cases here where brought here from Liberia (same as the Dallas) and were contained here even more quickly than was done in Dallas. Western Africa is the only place actually doing something about Ebola, while the US sticks it's head in the sand, or worse yet, plays Chicken Little! The sky is falling! OMFG!

I took my son on one last year. The people with the program are great and we had a lot of fun.

Outstanding program, with outstanding volunteers. The landowners who allow the kids to come out are the ones that make it possible.

Both my boys took their first deer on the hunts.

I hunted the stasney cook ranch in Albany when I was like 12, had a heck of a time and shot my first deer there... and I would highly suggest this for anyone with kids that doesn't have a place to hunt...

We are headed out on a TYHP hunt in a couple of hours. I don't think my son slept very much last night. We are both really excited. I'll let ya'll know how he does.

This year I attended two different youth hunts with my children. The first one was Timmin's ranch, which is a high fence property that pretty much guarentees a doe, and the second one was Chapman 4C, which is a low fence property in East Texas so success is not guarenteed.

Both are great programs. The Timmin's crew has been doing it for over 12years and they are very education orientated. Chapman 4C is newer, but they are very friendly and have the best food!

I recommend you sign up for everything you can drive too. Don't limit yourself to only one hunt application.

check into Dallas Safari Club - they have a great youth hunting program for schools so they may have information about programs in your area

also, Hollingsworth game ranch does youth doe hunt and I don't think they charge for an adult to go along without a rifle - they do not train or educate but they have a nice place near hico less than 2 hrs from dallas area

We just got back from a hunt. My son got 2 does and a spike. Gonna fill up the freezer today. Sure am proud of him. This was his fourth hunt. He going to be turning 18 soon. He made up his mind this weekend that he wants to become a volunteer huntmaster for TYHP. Great organization with great people.

I'm not so sure TYHP is that good of an organization.
They have started collecting information on children for a federal database.
They are using a federal law written to protect children from dead beat dads - but instead are using the law to collect data on children.
TDPW is coming under pressure from parents of youth hunters but will not back off from their position.
The most maddening part ... if I was an illegal immigrant I would be exempt from the program.
I am afraid TYHP and TDPW has take a left turn in the wrong direction.

Always nasayers! As a landowner that sat back and watched the hunt TYHP conducted this weekend, they will be back at my ranch. What a great group of people, young and old, and what a commitment volunteers have made to pass on our hunting heritage.

I hosted a Texas Youth Hunting Program hunt on my place this past weekend. Despite temperatures in the 90's resulting in low deer movement, three of the four kids shot does. I was really impressed with the program, the volunteers go through great lengths to introduce these young people to hunting. My hat is off to them!

Here is my best friend and right hand, Joe, at the entrance to my ranch.

Cleaning deer!

Final good bye...

My future Texas Youth Hunter, my grandson!

Deep Sea, I am looking to do some youth hunts as well with my daughter. It would be great to hear a report back from you.

Ranch Dog, thanks for participating as a landowner.
