I'm a Danner boot fan. Anything Danner is a good choice IMO. The Prohghorns are good. The Elk Hunter. The Grouse is a good upland walking boot if you're quail or pheasant hunting or just hiking a lot.
I'm not a Rocky Boot fan and have a story to go with my disgust of the brand but I'll save you the trouble of reading it. Let's just say they don't stand behind their product very well. So I haven't bought Rocky Boots in 15 years and never will again as long as I live.

If you need a boot for cold, wet weather, I'd recommend LLBean. I found a pair of "low top" Bean boots at a thrift store last year and worked like a champ.

http://www.hitthebreakroom.com/invite/?r=134798Great deal on Danner Pronghorns right now. $75 yes you have to sign up to see the deal, but they don't spam your email with a ton of emails only when they have a sale. This is Danner and Lacrosse's sale website.

Just want a good pair of boots that will last and keep the feet warm this winter. I guess you've never crossed an angry copper head ( rattlers quiet cousin). I hunt east Texas and still have a pair of snake boots, bought the Danners since I don't replace them every year. As far as non snake boots, I buy whatever is comfortable and waterproof. I bought Wolverine Osage this year.

I have been a fan of Irish Setters by Red Wing for over 40 years. I have both insulated and uninsulated. Extremely comfortable and well made!!

Was about sold on the Danners. Went to Cabelas to confirm my size before ordering on the breakroom. Tried on the Under Armours and they were more comfortable and lighter. Now not sure what I am going to do.

Unless you walk miles a day I wouldn't worry about weight. After all your looking for warmth.
Sept elk hunts I run both an ultralight trail running shoe and zamberlans.
Texas rifle hunts, bugaboo from Columbia. Late dec in a tree wearing the bugaboo or sorel depending on temp

Was looking at the under armour. Any one have any light on them? Also considering muck. I have always had muck wetland boots and the under armour 800s I got blow them away... If I went back and got another I would go with the cheaper 400s or whatever they are... those 800s will make your feet sweat while standing in almost freezing water... I wore them every duck hunt unless I just needed waders... and all through deer season once it was cold enough outside.

Well then...what about an average sized rattle snake? The reason I ask is years ago folks said they couldn't bite through a pair of heavy leather boots. Well...how heavy? Work boots? Bird Shooter types?

Bird Shooter types? Its better than having thin shoes on.. I bet they could get through the tops of most work boots but not the main foot cover. Still don't wana find out so I wear ray guards over mine... cheap and comfy enough... only snakes I got to worry about around me is Timbers but the ones I see are always big.

Hard to beat most of what have been mentioned. Danners, LaCrosse, Irish.

And any cheaper places to buy? Looking online looks like they are all pretty much priced the same.
