My brother loves to run his beagles and chase those darn wabbits. He has two beagles that should turn champion this year. He does not have any for sale but his friend does. We are in the Houston area what about you?

Thanks,

Next to my daughter singing, the prettiest song in the world is sung by beagles on the scent!

If you plan on "gunning", I would suggest leaving field trial dogs alone. Find a hunter somewhere out in east TX to buy from. They will have some excellent "grade" dogs that will light a fire under a rabbit. They'll be a lot cheaper too.

Just curious what do you mean by cheaper? My brother is looking to breed his dogs in the future and I was thinking he could get good money for champion bloodline beagles. He didn't think that was the case though. He was thinking he could only get 3/4 hundred for them. What is the going rate? SwampHunter did you give him a call?

Thanks,
Jody McCarty

Champion bloodlines only mean anything to field trial doggers who DON'T HUNT THEM. A hunter just wants a dog he can hunt with. Lineage doesn't matter as long as it will run and run hard. It's been a very long time since I was into breeding, but pups out of a champion dog or any registered dog for that matter went around 150 and up at weaning age, depending on the sire. Good grade dogs from backyard breeders topped out at about 75-100. Some went for as low as 50,depending on how much he thought of the parents. I'm sure today you would have to spend at least 100 a pup for grades. But those are the ones you want.

Hunter, if we were in N.La, I could get you in touch with some long time beaglers. But there are none that I know of where I currently live. There used to be a forum member by the name of Duckdown, who had some beagles up your way, or maybe out towards Greenville area. PM him and see what he's got.

Now those are the words of a true beagle...lol. I was the same way back in the day. I left my dad and uncle in good shape dog-wise when I went in the Army. When I came back, the stuff they had was so bad that I wouldn't even put em in my kennel.
