Carter's Country in Houston sells an American Hunter Sunslinger for $169. It's a 55gal metal feeder with legs, spincaster, and solar panel. All you have to add is the battery. I'm not sure about quality. I didn't need one this year, but even if you had to replace the spinner with something better you'd probably be ahead on $$. Good luck.

notice you are in Denton---ish ... but if ever down in the Austin area, there is a place west of Georgetown (6-7 miles west) on hwy 29 that I have bought several local built feeders that are nice painted metal barrels with banded lids, welded short legs (for hauling) with square tubing long legs with feet plates with holes (to stake down) for $130 ready to put a timer/motor box on. They also sell all the components to build up a box or sell setup complete (box, motor, timer (The Timer), battery, solar panel, etc.) ... full up feeder with timer/motor around $225+/-. They have other types too (built in ladder, protein, etc.).

Check the Moultrie website for clearance and referbished feeders. I have two 200-lb feeders with the "pro" motor, plastic barrels, and round legs. Both were internet specials at $99 with free shipping. I extended the legs with galvanized top-rail pipe from chain-link fence.

Chris, do yourself a favor and make that a double pulley system, it makes it soooo much easier to raise a full feeder. Also make sure it is a breaking winch. If you have built cranks ups before you probably already know this stuff.

Anything else in the 150-200$ range Squirrels love to chew plastic. So I would never have a plastic feeder. That being said to stay in that range with a metal barrel feeder. You may have to make your own. Even the american hunters are about 250-300

Put good brace where leg attaches to barrel and you will be set to go. I added 2 cross bars under the barrel to give it support.

I have a plastic feeder and it lasted a week before a squirrel or coon chewed through the top a hole about 5 inches diameter. ONE WEEK...... If you're gonna use plastic, go to Lowes, get a sheet of metal and bolt it on the plastic top of the feeder. I did, it works.

Did the barrel come with legs? Is there any way to attach legs without a welder?

First off - Spinner $90, yes comes with solar panel, forget name bought at Bass Pro, the lid I bought at Bass Pro around $25, legs to barrel- I use apiece of metal edging cut to 8"-10" bolt to barrel, then I mount the bent pipe through the metal edging through the barrel with bolts and locking nuts. As for the bent pipe I have a friend bend 1 1/2" pipe to 30 deg about 4' long then use 2" slide over up to 10' long. The location of the legs on the barrel I mount in the middle of the barrel, make sure you seal around the bolts for moisture.
