Here's a target from a factory Rem 700 that I shot last week. The rifle had a bed job, new crown, and upgraded trigger, and the rest is factory. I mounted my Nightforce 5.5-22x50 MLR on the rifle for testing. 3 of the 5 loads shot 1/2 moa! 243 Win shooting 87 grain VLD, Lapua brass, tested at 200 yards. Shot at 200 yards Load A- Center diamond- 5 rounds plus 1 sighter- 1.42" Load B- top left- .74" 4 shot, and 1.29" 5 shot Load C- top right- 5 shot 1.13" Load D- far left- 4 shot .73" and 5 shot 1.08" Load E- bottom left- 3 shot .63" and 5 shot 2.78" (slight pressure signs) I'll let my customer pick which one he likes best. Loads B, C and D all shot very well.

That is pretty good shooting for a factory rifle. What kind of speed were you getting with the 87?
I love the 243, easy round to load for and good components to go with it.

Don't know how I didn't notice that... Those are pretty good numbers what barrel length does the Remington come with factory? Since he had it recrowned did he also have it cut down?

No, just re-crowned. It's a Rem varmint contour barrel, so either 24" or 26" barrel.

I have a good friend who is an architect, and he makes them for me in AutoCAD, and prints them out on a plotter. It's my 300 yard target, and the squares are 1.57" (exactly half moa at 300) from corner to corner. The diamonds show up very well at 200 and 300 yards, and the shading is light enough to still see your impacts. I like using these to get all my rounds on paper.

I told him I have a 100 yard zero target we need to make. Same idea of using grey lines so bullet holes can be seen from the zero line. His house project has had him swamped, though.
Your loads are a testament to what I've said for years. Today's factory rifles will shoot very, very well with a load tuned for them.

I am the owner of the rifle. The bbl was cut to 24" (from 26) before being re-crowned. It's on a Hogue stock. I added the Timney trigger. The gun shot just over an inch w/ green box Remingtons (probably better for another shooter) before taking it to Chad. Chad has been great to deal with and very informative, I reccomend him highly.

Awesome! I am working on a .243 hunting load for the Barnes 85 gr TSX round. Using Winchester brass, CCI primers, and R 19 powder. Have not gotten a chance to get to the range but got all the rounds loaded up!
