I concluded my custom load development in search of a magnum 270 Winchester (270 WCF) load with a Hornady 130 grain SP bullet. It is running 3080 fps in a standard 22" barrel. This load is a max load designed for bolt gun rifles. It is not recommended in a semi auto or lever action rifles! All the enhanced ammunition loading methods were used to achieve top speed and top accuracy for this bullet.
This is one of my custom loads developed for the 270 Winchester, loaded on a progressive, commercial grade Dillon 1050 press. NEW Winchester brass (reloadable), Winchester large rifle primer, Alliant magnum rifle powder, and Hornady 130 grain SP (soft point) bullet. Hornady 130 SP @ 3080 fps!! Other ammo manufactures claim slightly faster speeds, but the ammo does not shoot well and is not consistent. This ammo is designed to shoot well, remain consistent, and achieve top speeds. 50 rounds- $65 per 50 **Order 50 Rounds HERE! 100 rounds- $120 per 100 **Order 100 rounds HERE
Load J was the best load I found. The black dot is 3/4" on Load J. Loads H and I also shot good, but I wanted more speed with better accuracy. Load K opened up, and ES went up. Everything I tested shot 1 MOA or better. Load J is it! This target was shot using a factory Howa 1500 with Leupold VX-7 Long Range 3.5-14x50 scope.
I shot the 270 Win at 200, 300, 400 and 500 yards this morning. Here are two groups from 300 and 500 yards with the 270 Win, 130 SP. 300 yards was about 2", and the 500 yards was about 3.5" to 4" groups. The 500 yard group was shot on a very hot barrel. It is shooting very good!
From 300 yards, come-up was exactly 3 moa, and 500 yards was 8.25 MOA (from a 100 yard zero).
