I'm starting this thread to keep those of us motivated that are preparing for upcoming hunts.

I'm at 260 lbs. right now, and I need to be around 205. I just quit smoking, and I'm about to start doing some cardio. Cutting back on the whiskey, too. I'm stuck on location 5-6 days a week, so I have to make do with what I've got. I have plenty of time on my hands out here, so there's no excuses. I'm going to hit these hills that surround the well sites. I've been doing some stretching and taking some vitamins for my joints. Drinking more water. Now I'll start walking up those hills and work my way up to running and walking with a loaded pack.

Also, I'm setting money aside for gear and the trips themselves. I've got an elliptical at home, and once I have all my gear and the money for the trip set aside, I'll invest in some type of home gym.

I'll give updates as I work out, and expect y'all to hold me accountable for any slacking. Lets get prepared, people. Now is the time. Feel free to join in, but don't expect me to take it easy on you if you commit. I don't want anyone letting me slack off in any way.

I've also started eating better. Less junk, more fruits and vegetables. Smaller meals, more often, instead of a couple of big meals.

Colorado. I hear you Sneaky. I need to start eating better, more exercise, less booze, etc. It's tough, but I have to do it.

I'm here to testify! Time for me to drop the excuses and get serious. I'm starting right after dinner. The wife has her killer enchiladas smelling the house up right now and I don't want to hurt her feelings! Oh, I almost forgot, Tres Leches for dessert. food

You have my full support and I will hold you accountable. I started taking my health more serious about 3 years ago when I turned fifty and my blood pressure started getting elevated.

The good news is my doctor gave me a chance to exercise and eat better before prescribing me drugs. I started walking at a brisk pace a mile a day and worked up to 3 miles a day taking the weekend off. Then started light running intervals spaced out in my walk routine. I now walk two miles and run a mile and a quarter. Still take the weekends off.

Cut the burgers back to one to two per month. Cut out the eggs for breakfast and especially the bacon and sausage. When I eat pork I eat the lean cuts and grill them.

Started eating chicken and turkey sausage and bacon. Replaced ground beef with ground turkey.

Started eating more veggies and chicken, seafood, and VENISON. Drink more water. Stay away from the soft drinks.

I feel and look much better. Probably lost about 20-25 pounds. And taking no medications. I'll be ready for those mountains.

Well I'm usually the oldest, so I started the cardio and jogging about a month ago. Got a girlfriend, that want to become full time night woman and we have been eating healthy. Do a lot of stair climbing at work, so I need to work on the jogging thing more. By the time we get to the mountains I will be back in some type of good physical condition for young old kid. Any way this is a once in a life time or bucket list goal and I want it to be fun.

It's not easy, but the results are worth it. It always helps to make it a team effort.

The caterer served a brisket sandwich for dinner, with pasta salad, corn on the cob, and salad. I ate the briskets, sans the bread. Picked the olives and tomatoes out of the pasta and ate them without touching the noodles (not easy), and made a salad with less dressing than usual.

I also told my wife to pack my tote with fruit that will keep and no more junk. As a side effect, she is quite pleased with the whole deal. She will be a big help, and so will this thread.

Palehorse, enjoy those enchiladas. Tomorrow, it's healthy time.

Erathkid, no more excuses for either of us. Time to buckle down and get serious about this. Our health is everything. It's time we took care of it.

Friend who's 52 lost 205 on nutrisystem with some jogging once she got down to 150. Cpl minor cosmetic surgeries to remove skin and she's at a comfy 105.

That's what I'm shooting for, but chicken? Surely I don't have to resort to that nasty stuff. I have a freezer that's plumb full of wild game. I'll make that work.

Stairs are a great way to prepare for what we'll be doing. That's how I got in shape for my first elk hunt, and it paid off.

Last time I got in shape, I found 205 to be just right for me. That was all cardio, though, and this go round I'll eventually do some lifting. Not to get big, but to be stronger and more fit.

Glad to hear it. 40 sacks of feed will get the blood flowing.

Awesome, sounds like you're doing it the right way. up

I'm 5'10" and got up to almost 240lbs a couple of years ago. I worked my way down to 215-220lbs with diet and no exercise, but I wasn't really losing any fat.

A couple of months ago I recommitted to tracking what I eat, exercising 5-6 times/week, and trying to walk 10,000 steps/day. As of yesterday I'm down to about 194lbs, plus I'm losing fat and gaining muscle at a healthy rate.

I still have a long way to go, but I don't feel like I'm "dieting" at all - more like just living a healthy lifestyle. Keep up the good work. Feel free to hit me up if need any suggestions / motivation / whatever.

A couple of things I've done or noticed that may help some of y'all.

I've been eating a lot of sunflower seeds. They do have some calories, but they're good for you and help to replace a lot of bad habits.

Stop eating before you're full. You'll find that you are satisfied, and by taking a break, you'll realize that you're no longer hungry, and it's easier to not finish the meal. This was hard for me, because it was drilled into my head to not waste food, but if it's making you fat, what is the point? After awhile, you'll find it easier to eat less because your body becomes more used to it. If you get hungry again later, but before your next meal, eat a piece of fruit.

Start walking. You don't have to run a marathon on your first outing. Build up each workout as you can. Push yourself, but build it up gradually. My joints hurt me because of weight and bad genes. I've been taking supplements for that, which are helping, and I've started stretching and using those joints more to get them in better shape. Using them is painful, but it's good for them. Walking or running up an incline will help you prepare for mountainous terrain. As you build up your workouts, try it with a pack on. Increase the weight as you go.

Be honest with yourself and with us. Cheating won't get you there. That's what this thread is for. Accountability. I'm being 100% honest here, and that's in the back of my mind any time I'm tempted or feeling lazy. It helps.....a lot.

Exactly. I don't want to diet as much as I want to change the way I eat and take care of myself. This isn't temporary.

If you have any suggestions, share them. I want to get in shape and stay in shape for hunting. Elk hunting, mostly. Legs and lungs are number one, but I'd like to be stronger, too. Not bodybuilder strong, just fit and all around stronger than average. I want to be well rounded.

Do insanity...it'll suck at first but part of the problem with high elevation is lungs not trained for it. Insanity will push your lungs and teach you how to breathe. You can then pick 1 day to eat like crap to throw your body out of routine.
