As many of you know, I'm a big proponent of First Focal Plane scopes. The largest advantage is the ability to always be able to hold the correct windage at any magnification. These pics are of a 12" plate hung at 600 yards. After shooting a bit this evening before I headed home I finally remembered to take some through the scope pics at various magnifications for those that have never viewed through a first focal plane scope

5X

10X

15X

20X

You can see the SWFA cattail on the magnification ring in the various positions. You can also clearly see that the reticle relationship to the picture size remains the same throughout magnification. Which is the whole point in FFP scopes.

Skylar,

Sorry I didn't clean the glass on the scope and the camera lens before taking these pics. I had no lens cleaning cloths with me, today.

Gentleman, these pics don't do justice to the clarity of SS scopes. They are outstanding!

The bolt is in the center, same as the rest of them.

The handle works well for me.

How does the glass compare to your Viper?

I'm looking pretty hard at the 2.5-10 HS for a medium bore hunting rifle project. I'm a little iffy about the 32mm objective though, and the SS 3-9x42 with the FFP mil-quad reticle is also giving me a gear-boner.

That's a tough one. I've not "tested" the Viper. But I'd have to give the edge to the SS.

The eye relief on the SS is far more forgiving than the Viper at max magnification, though. I don't turn the Viper above 20X because I lose definition, and it's harder to get edge to edge clarity. The SS is a better scope, overall, but the Viper is still a very good scope, and is significantly lighter. Which is why I put it on a rifle I would be carrying hunting. You can't go wrong with either one.

The HS is quite a bit brighter than the non-HD 3-9x44 FFP.

Is that where you take your clients too? It's the same place as before, just no grass right?

Also, thank you for that sir. You took a little time to teach a newby and I appreciate it.

So the SFP is where the reticle stays the same and the overall view is zoomed in and out right? I can see where that would really mess me up long range

Correct.

Yes, SFP the reticle does not move but the sight picture increases and decreases in size. There's already enough to keep up with holding the right amount of wind at a certain range, no need to add in a conversion of Mil subtension based on the current magnification setting.

im happy with my vortex but you can tell a big difference from vortex glass and swfa. I looked through Jason scope at the class and was amazed at the clarity. Makes me wanna sell my vortex and swfa all my guns
