So I got a call this morning from Champion meat in streetman where I took my buck to be processed. The lady on the phone told me she had bad news. It seems the game warden had come by and inspected their coolers and found some bad carcasses and they had to dump the whole cooler. So, now I have no deer meat and I've got to go get my cape and horns. They offered to replace the meat with pork or give me a free processing next year. I don't want pork. If I did I would have taken them a pig. And I damn sure won't take them another deer.
Sorry if this makes no sense. I'm so pissed I can't think straight.
Rant over for now

Bad deal there. So where the bad carcasses because of their freezers not keeping correct temps??

Redchevy, I've always done the work myself or quartered the deer and took them just meat for says for whatever. But the way it worked out with this deer I just didn't have the time. It was a Sunday evening, I was on call, and had to get back to the house. The only good news is we are MLD so I can still get a doe to put in the freezer

Tell them to buy some venison from another processor, or some exotic meat to replace it all. That seems to be a fair solution.

If you are speaking of J&S of FM 833, it is no more. It is now run by this Champion meat service folks. Little update here… I called them today and it seems that the GW was inspecting the cooler to make sure all the tags were right or whatever and found what he thought to be contaminated carcasses and call the health dept. The health dept. condemned the cooler and they had to dump 60 deer. I'm still so mad I could spit nails but none the less going to pick up my head and cape Saturday morning.

Wow, and I was just wondering what the deal was with my deer. I took a doe in there about 3-4 weeks ago, and was about to call them until I saw this...great new.

Tough luck to say the least. Take their pork, get your antlers and hide and forget them for good.

Went down today. After 15 minutes of searching they came back with my deer head. BUT THEY DIDN'T SAVE THE CAPE!
Most unbelievable processor situation i've heard or experience. DO NOT take these people anything!!
I'm supposed to be receiving a call from the owner so he can "make it right." At this point, no meat and no mount, I'm not sure what exactly will make it right.

My taxi always has extra hides for remounts etc. I am sure most do. I would make them pay for the mount and just use a donor hide.

It's not criminal, but it is definitely a civil case.
For all the meat to be bad, it implies poor refrigeration, poor handling, and/or co-mingling of meat.
They are liable for your property. How you settle is up to you, not them. If you want free processing, that's your choice, you want replacement meat, that's your choice. You want cash, that's your choice.
If you can't reach a meeting of the minds with the owners, you'll have to go to court. That will cost time and money. Any judgement in court will almost certainly be a cash judgement. Then you will have to collect - along with everyone else. How much are you willing to do collect a judgement of probably not more than $150
Now what would be an interesting court case would be to sue based upon replacement cost. If the sole purpose and result if your deer hunting was to harvest that venison - then the "cost" of the venison (it could be argued) includes your lease cost, corn cost, travel cost, etc. You could try to recoup all the cost for a big payout. I doubt if you would win - but you might. No one thought the Twinky case would prevail.
If I was really pizzed about it, I would file a case for the whole shebang - then use it as a big stick for a $150-$200 settlement.
But there are a lot more important things in life to choose that battle to fight. At least, in my life.

It should be some type of mandatory restitution for wasting the resource...if I bobbed off the antlers and threw the meat in a ditch it is a crime...they did the same thing and get away with it and I lose my whole seasons meat because of these idiots...they told me today they would definitely call me today..They won't...and I will let y'all know what is happening...I need to at least go take this meat and distribute it around their properties and homes...believe me, they don't care, and lie and told me you cannot believe all you hear...I said, "I don't need to hear anything, and its obvious you don't care about your customers, and know you are wrong, or you would have called me back.."She assured me they would call me today, just like Monday and Wednesday....I will dedicate as much free time and effort as I have to distribute this info to all my friends at the Buffalo and Crockett livestock commissions, my friends in Madisonville, Buffalo, Teague, Centerville, Mexia and Fairfield, and keep track of the owners business endeavors when they go under so they don't just open up and start this fiasco all over again...I am so P....d off, and there is no other constructive way to handle it but to spread their name like a pile of rancid meat all over those counties, and I know alot of folks in the hunting and cattle business...just wish I could afford the time and money to make it personal...still may file civil papers...I have over a thousand dollars invested in preparing the land and harvesting a deer...for nothing...Champion are losers...J&S were awesome...they are very missed...

I lost a hog to Champion. 4 days after I took it to them, the Game Warden and meat inspectors cited them for 52 violations of improper meat handling, waste of game meat and other unsanitary conditions. Champion called me a few weeks ago to tell me my hog was ready. The lady I spoke too was very evasive and would not commit to telling me if my hog done properly or not. Considering all the reports I read about others getting sick or getting back stinky rancid meat, I told her to keep it. It's a darn shame nothing more will proably be done. they were selling bad products before and after they got their hands slapped. It's a terrible waste for the Hunter and the animal harvested. Yes, I am still po'ed and hope they are put out of business.
