I realize by posting this inquiry I am opening Pandora's Box but here goes. What are your thoughts about, other than the fact it is butt ugly, the Remington R-51 pistol?

It's the biggest subcompact I've ever seen.

I am very interested in shooting one myself. I like the fact that its a metal pistol, single action trigger, and has no sharp corners.

I will agree, its too big to be a subcompact, and it is kinda ugly.

I want to handle one first before I make a final judgment. Concept is cool though. I like the fact that it is an all metal gun.

I agree. I was just wondering what others thought about it.

I want to hold it before I condemn it. The original Remington Model 51 had the reputation of being one of the most natural pointing pistols ever made. If that holds true for the R51 a lot of other sins can be forgiven.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

While the Remington R51 isn't the most attractive pistol, It is still better looking than modern FN pistols.

I want to shoot one. The low bore axis should be a plus.

Agree to disagree on this one.

I think it looks a lot like a Makarov. That doesnt change the fact that I would like to shoot it.

Looks like the Model 51 came from Area 51.

Thanks for your thoughts. I pretty much line up with those who want to shoot it before passing judgement.

I want one! I like that it is not just another Glock like striker fired clone.

Metal not plastic frame, low bore axis, no thumb safety to snag on clothing, tapered and contoured to ease holstering, single stack, allegedly less felt recoil and better pointing.

Not crazy about the magazine disconnect but at least the mag release buttons are slightly recessed.

I just hope it lives up to the example set by the original 51 (which was made in 380 and 32 acp)

If it is anywhere close to the original 51 in 380 it will be great. I have the 51/380 and it is superior to the Walther ppk and about the same size. Just in case everyone is full of crap I have a R51 ordered. Price is right too!

I have not heard anything more about the R51 since the debut at Shot Show. It was supposed to start shipping this month. It does not appear to be shipping as far as I can tell. Anyone hear of these showing up at dealers?

I just pre-ordered one, estimates are 3 months before shipping.

Credit Card won't be charged until it ships and I ain't standing in line in front of Academy or Cabelas on "truck day" like when the ammo and gun craze was in full effect last year.

I like others will have to try it out and see for myself before judging the R51.

I went looking for an R51 to check out a few days ago, and no one had any. I plan on buying one if real world reviews come back good.

My personal opinion is that it is such an ugly pistol I won't own one.

It looks cheap and ugly.
