Got this 6.5 year old buck Nov 8 on my father's ranch (Poster-pnh) in Northwest Houston County. Had been getting pictures of him for 4 years but until that evening, no one had ever laid eyes on him. Sitting in a boxstand on the edge of a haymeadow within shouting distance from my parent's house. Had only seen 2 doe until 10 mins before dark, and my mother came driving down the county road coming home from work. About that time I saw a big body deer coming from the direction of the road, angling across the hay meadow straight towards me. Put my binocs up and a started arguing with myself that "it aint him, because it aint ever been him during the past 4 years." But I knew it was him. The lighting was terrible and I could barely make him out in my scope. I had to back off and start over, all the while he was still coming right towards me. I re-positioned my gun out of the northwest window, hoping (and praying) that he would jump a fence and be on the crest of a hill that might offer a little better light. He did, and I shot. Hind legs kicked out, and he ran about 100 yards and dropped. I think I jumped (rather than climbed) out of my stand and could hardly believe it was him. Low fence native East Texas buck that scored 164 4/8 non typical. He has 23 points that you can hang a wedding band on, 20 scoreable points. Inside spread was 20”; he has 6 in bases; 23" neck, weighed 192 lbs on the hoof. Buck of a lifetime in my 36th year! At the exact same moment, 2 miles away, his son (who we’d also been getting pictures of), was killed by a family member who hunts with us. Bloody Friday!

awesome buck(s), congrats
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

The only downside of taking such a great buck is being able to take an even better one.
Congratulations on a awesome deer.
