Well, I have a pretty good amount of hunting rifles and shotguns, I have more .22's than all my other firearms combined, have a few handguns (revolvers), and I have an AR-15, whats next? I want to stick with another "assault weapon" before our government has another chance to ban them. I have considered AK's but I really don't know if another rifle is what I need. If you were looking for a Semi-automatic Handgun that is top quality (as far as function and quality, I don't want some "custom" gun that is going to run me two or three thousand and function the same as a $500 handgun) what would you buy? if you wouldn't get a handgun than what would you get, I am open to any suggestion? would like to keep it under $1000 if at all possible and it needs to be a firearm that is currently being targeted by media and the government (if that is what you want to call it), believe me I love revolvers, bolt actions, and military surplus guns as much as anybody but that isn't what I need to focus my money on right now. Oh and last thing, I don't want a Glock.. Don't get me wrong, they are extremely reliable and I know I could defend my life with one but that doesn't change the fact that they are shaped like a block and have the ergonomics of a 2x4. And yes, I have experience with Glock's. I am not just judging them by what people say on the internet, however a lot of people have the same complaints (hint hint).

I would for sure go with a high capacity semi auto pistol. They are always on the hit list when something happens. Lots of choices but you already said you don't like mine. Lol

Let me put it this way, If I were buying A firearm solely to defend my life in the case of someone breaking in.. I would buy a glock, but thats not the case, I will go target shooting/plinking often, I will take it camping with me, have it on my belt when Im hunting, potentially do some competition matches with it, and most importantly.... I have to look at it, I just can't do that with a Glock (; .. In all seriousness, I see this as a major investment and I just want to get an all around good gun.

Can't go wrong with an M&P. My dad has an XDM that is a great shooter but the M&P feels much better in the hand (to me) and I shoot it better. Before I bought the M&P I took my dad's XDM to a range that rents out pistols. I shot the XDM next to an M&P and a Glock 30 if I recall correctly. I put about 50 rounds through each pistol and was sold on the M&P. I would highly suggest shooting an M&P and an XDM side by side and seeing what feels better and what you shoot better. Sig is another option, but you lose some mag capacity and there is a price increase.

Check out the PMR30. Whats not to like about a pistol that holds 30 rounds of 22magnum. Buy a few more magazines and you'll be covered for a zombie apocalypse.

Thanks for the replies! I have been thinking about the M&P for a while now, I have shot a few hundred rounds out of the XDM series (XDM 3.8 40, XDS .45, XDM .45 full size, XDM 9mm full size, and XDM 9mm 3.8) And although they looked pretty sweet I didn't shoot them as well as I would have hoped to and I didn't like the grip safety, felt like a cheaper version of a 1911. Doesn't the M&P have a less than par trigger though? Or at least that's what I have heard. What about the Sig p226, is it really worth the price? I am willing to pay it if there is a big advantage over the M&P. What about 1911's. I have looked at the new Ruger SR1911 but to be honest I can't say I have to much experience with 1911's.

Tactical Cowboy, the only company I have heard of on your list is Benelli, please enlighten me on the rest, I just might be interested?

This was my most recent purchase - Didn't need it, but I did want a high capacity pistol in a different caliber. These MP40 will shoot 9mm, 40 sw, and 357 sig with barrel and mag changes.

But this one is my favorite

My most recent rifle purchase

I just looked up SVI firearms, never even saw the MSRP, All I saw was the first picture and know it wasn't something I was going to buy, way to fancy.

1911 would be my choice. Otherwise, a Glock/S%W/Springfield Armory in 45acp would fit the bill

How about this, take that $1000 and give it to me as a fine for perpetuating the term "Assault Weapon". If it's ok for "Pro 2nd Ammendment" people to use incorrectly, it's ok for the "Anti's" to use as well.

Corey, you must have been wine-infused when you made this post. You want an assault rifle like an AK, and then you want another handgun?

I have had the same trouble myself trying to make up my mind. Personally, I'd sleep on it. You might have an epiphany in the morning.

(FWIW, a new bolt action is NEVER a bad choice.)

You noticed the " " didn't you, believe me, I hate the Anti's as much as anyone, they run off of lies and the fear of others to run their agenda. When I say "assault weapon", I know you can't see me typing it but I am being completely sarcastic and at the verge of throwing up (;

An "assault weapon" as in one of the firearms that are included in the AWB that the Democrats keep pushing. I was using the AK as an example, what I am truly looking for is a suggestino on either a semi-auto handgun or some unique "assault rifle"to broaden my collection a little.

As for a pistol; my vote would be FNX-45 Tactical.

If you want a semi-auto rifle; how about an LR308?

You might try a .308 in an AR10 or a 9 or 45 in a sig. I really like their Texas Edition, but the M25 Navy Model is also nice

All that I mentioned are purpose-built, reliable, and absolutely the definition awesomeness.
