I'm actually not looking to "get into" anything. I'm just pointing out some great hunting in Texas. You guys can measure your wieners on your own time. Some very good hunting everywhere in Texas and I prefer the panhandle area of Texas if given a chance. If it wasn't for the harsh winters I'd move back! !!! But darn winters up there are rough Wuss if a deer can make so can you

I understand, how many BC entries in the last 10years? Maverick leads both typical and non typical book entries for the past 10 years (in addition to the past 30 years)

No, but boone and crooket shows zero entries for that county I know of 3 deer killed in a county right next to grayson county that willnever be seen by 99.9% of the public. All shot same property. Ask grayson if he entered both those deer off his place in the book? And then ask him if they shot a third 200" if he would enter it in another contest Again BC book is a terrible resource for current and future booners. There is no way for us to say or confirm current bc deer being shot any where. You know as well as I do there are more bad things that can happen about posting big deer then not posting or entering deer. I agree with that statement about putting deer in the books. So, based upon documented facts, grayson has Zero entries. We know of one for sure and throw in 2 more for good measure. Add in the next counties deer as well. that is 5 Maverick has over 40 entries. so why are we still arguing about the better deer county??? We know darn good and well that grayson county has not produced 40 net boone and crockett entries. Not sure what documented facts you're looking at but there are at least 10 documented in the last 12 years, and I'm sure I'm missing a few. Not too bad considering that, as was pointed out in another thread, we've really only had the opportunity to bow hunt the rut in Grayson for the last 15 years or so. How long has Maverick had a deer season?

BTW that "documentation" includes two state records at 225" and 254" net, respectively.

been on 9000 acres Maverick County for 7 years - low fence - I killed a 201 book deer, plus we have taken the following: 204, 194, 190, 188, 186, two 182's, 176 typical, and multiple 170 plus deer. All native, managed properly - the genetics are simply incredible.
Nothing against any other part of the state but contending that South Texas doesn't have the best opportunity for a book deer on low fence is an empty argument.

BTW that "documentation" includes two state records at 225" and 254" net, respectively. the record I pulled from were for typical entries. I should have noted that. nevertheless, I never, ever once said that Grayson didn't have big deer. I just stated that Maverick has more. that was it. not taking anything away from that county. this thread was originally started over the topic of acorns BTW. not sure how it spun off into a "my house is better than your house" argument.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Dumb argument. I've hunted South Texas and Grayson County.
South Texas is an incredible place. I hunted half of a low pressure 30k acre ranch on the Frio/Zavala border. I saw more 150" deer in a day than I've seen in all the time I've spent in Grayson, Cooke and Denton. Don't get me wrong, I've seen some great deer up here but the numbers of big deer aren't here. If you looked at it as a book deer per capita, Grayson will probably win the argument but if you look the sheer numbers of book deer overall, South Texas will win hands down. Both places have big deer killed that nobody ever hears about. If I ever shoot one it will never end up on here or in any contest. It is already hard enough to get hunting land up here.

You are correct, S. Tx. is much, much, much easier hunting than north Texas. I can see why so many of these guys like to hunt there.

This professional quality video was shot by my brother or I from the cab of a big white ford pickup at about 50 yards. I had a 150" nine point walk by at 20 yards while I was standing outside of the pickup peeing. It was stupid easy hunting. Well not really hunting. I'd suggest everybody get down to south texas to experience it at least once.

I wish all south texas was stupid easy hunting - that looks like the King ranch where the deer are almost tame - most ranches south have pretty wild deer

kjghkg edit: oops, dang kid playing on the computer....
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

I've taken over 2000 photos the last 2 seasons on an incredible ranch in Maverick County. This year I know of 5 deer killed that were over 183" with 2 clearing 200". This is from one ranch alone. I don't believe you can say that in any other county excluding some of the HF operations.
If you hardheads get bored go to 2coolfishing.com to the hunting forum and look at the season long thread from the Holden Pasture Nunley Chittuim Ranch in Maverick county. All low fence. Baker

181-185-190-195-205-206 this season on the Holden lease of the nunley chittim ranch and I believe 4 of them make the book. The 190 typical 12 and both 200s were taken with a bow.
