I went to Granger Lake today and tried to enter at the Willis Park gate. The park host there said that it is a corps park and there is no hunting allowed inside the park. The book from the state shows that nearly the entire park is available for public hunting. When I left I saw the yellow boundary markers along the fence stating that a public hunting permit is required to hunt on the property. I never saw an OSR board.
Is the park available to hunt on? Do we park along the side of the road and hop the fence to access the property? I left and went to another property because I didn't want the lady calling the cops on me for hunting illegally. What is the proper procedure to hunt there and is it worth the trouble?

Granger lake requires the APH permit. You are generally required to enter public hunting lands through "approved" entrances. They are usually easy to spot as you drive down the road. They usually have a parking area, and you can see the little "cut" in the fence with the space you can go through the fence. OSR is not necessary at Granger. The map used to show the most common entrances, but doesn't appear to show them anymore. It didn't show all of them, so I guess they just took them off the map. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/public/lands/table_contents/media/709.pdf

For whitetails, the hunting is for APH permit holders by postcard drawing only.

Thanks for the help guys. I figured that since I have the APH permit and the park is listed in the catalogue I would be able to go in through a park entrance.
That lady was one of the grumpiest old ladies I have ever dealt with left me with a bad impression of the park.

There should be a fence up to show the boundaries

Note that the Park and the WMA are different things - the Park portions are run by Corp personnel and aren't open to hunting.
Deer quality is not measured by antler size
