I've talked with Dan, he seems like a nice guy that has lots of experience with retriever and pointer training. Looking to send my lab somewhere for finishing.

Have bought dogs from him and seen his work with pointers. I've been told he's very good with Labs also.

Glenda and Juli Mitchell at Kanati Kennels in Brownwood are as good as it gets when it comes to dog trainers. They have had my dog, as well as two other friends dogs, and they produce excellent results. I wouldn't take my dog anywhere else. I visited with close to ten different trainers from Houston to Navasota to Dripping Springs to Brownwood before I decided on Glenda.

Glenda is the Field Rep for HRC/UKC for that region, she is a huge contributor to the Lonesome Dove Hunting Retriever Club and a committee member of Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl.

Here's my pup last year:

Has anybody that bought a dog from Phantom Kennels kept the dog in the house at all? Would like to get a pointer to hunt but also want a buddy. Anybody have any reports on the disposition of the dogs there? I would anticipate that they have to be trainable and cooperative given the championships Dan and his dogs of obtained but, I am also looking for a dog that likes to be around people. Also, I am looking at getting a started dog from him so I guess I would have a better idea of what I would be getting from a disposition standpoint.

Also looking at yellow rose kennels for my pointer but haven't heard too much about it. Feel free to PM me if you want to share experiences with someone about both. I'd be interested to hear from anyone.

In dog beers, I've only had one.

Generally speaking, a Pointer isn't going to make a good house pet. Especially a started dog, they will have been in the kennel and will take more time to house train. Not to say that they can't make good pets, just that a started pointer is probably not your best option.

Gun's don't kill people. The Government does.

I killed eight gophers last year and a purebred Tennessee walking horse that was looking at me funny.

I've made house pets out of all my pointers.

Have three pointers that sleep inside every night in a kennel. We let one sleep on the bed each night and they trade out so each dog gets to sleep on the bed twice each week. When we have more than 1 on the bed they play grabazz to much. Do they have the exact same disposition as a lab no, but no lab can run and hunt as fast and hard as a pointer. My pointers are all less than two years old and I am sure with age they will settle down even more. Now when we are hunting hard I imagine they could all sleep on the bed because they are worn out.

I have bought several pointers from him, and have been happy with all.

I train with Glenda a few times a month. Is your dog with her now? They've got a nice little golden they are training right now also.

I just quoted Lawbu. Lawbu posted about visiting with trainers. I go train with Glenda in Brownwood every now and then. I have not visited with any trainers about training my dog.

When I was raising and training pointers they had to earn the right to come into the house, so therefore they might be a year to 3 years old before they came out of the kennel to the house. They were always easy to housebreak at this point because they knew obedience. At times they would not be the most loving dog because they were working dogs first, but the grandkids could play with them and climb all over them, pull them, or what ever and they would ignore it. Overall wonderful in the house and it made us closer so it made them better dogs.
