Awesome book. I know alot of yall have already read it, I just wanted to put this out here if theres anyone who hasn't. I think you could call this a book a must read for anyone, young or old, new to deer management or deer hunting, but I'd still recommend this book to any "seasoned" deer hunter who hasn't read it yet (assuming you're not a biologist). It is full of great info, along with pictures, on aging deer on the hoof with their body characteristics, their behavior, and aging after the harvest. It also covers antler development, the causes of abnormal development, and a few other topics all whitetail hunters would appreciate.

Yep, Amazon just got me too.
Having said that, shot placement is key and there is only one level of dead. Us east Texans can't afford turquoise and elk ivories for jewelry. So we use hog tushes and coon peckers.

I thought it was worth it, I've read it once and will read it again, at least to reference the aging sections when my trail cams go back out. I'm definitely going to get the kids in the family to read it when they get to start hunting.

I know this is old thread, but I know the author, Dave Richards. He is a huge outdoors enthusiast and shoots with a Cannon. This is an excellent book. I'm glad to see that others are also enjoying his work.

Excellent resource on all things Texas whitetail. A couple of Mike Bigg's books are very good for aging, as well. There are age progression photos on numerous bucks from 1.5 years through as much as 8.5 years or better.

Dr James Kroll (Dr Deer) has written several good books on the subject. I have them all and recommend. He and Mike Biggs must be friends because the books have a lot of Biggs' work in them.

Great Book! But hard to find - I just got the hard copy for my daughter for XMAS (shhh, she doesn't know yet), and also got the softcover for myself.
It is simply the best book on whitetail I have ever seen.

Great book. I kept it on the coffee table in the cabin. It was well read of the years by all the hunters coming through.
