Typically anything from 243 to 300 mags are considered adequate deer killers.

Sure the 300's have more pop than the 243, is it needed no. There are some bigger and some smaller past that pick your own preference.

A 300 mag isn't going to kill a deer any more dead than a 30-30 7mm08 270 30-06 etc.

I shoot a 270 223 and 300 wby at texas deer and feel they are all adequate. I would like to have a 6.5 of some variation and a 7mm of some variation and im sure will kill deer with all of them. There is no 1 best, quit looking for it.

Mainly used a Remington 700 in 260 last year.But did carry a Blaser R84 a few days and a Remington 600 and a remington model 7 and a Mauser 98 and a DPMS AP4 6.8 and a few others...

i have a nice howa .243 super accurate as well
but i almost always go with the 7mag

My favorite is a 30-06 Ackley Improved. I also carry a.243 when I'm meat hunting . Both are quite accurate and do their intended job very well.

25-06 for hill country whitetails

For short range I use a Marlin 30-30, for long range I use 30-06.

About 90% of the time I use one of my many muzzle loaders. If I use a cartridge rifle it's my 25-06.

But if you don't have a .308 that's the caliber I would recommend. Ammo is relatively inexpensive, is readily available, and comes in a wide variety of bullet weights and types, from basic to premium.

Browning .270 WSM

I went from a Savage 10PC 308 with a 6x18 scope to a Savage Axis .243 with a 3x9 BDC. My change was traded for a Saiga 12 before the scare and is it really a good idea to bring a 1000$ rifle into the stand? the 243 has 3 kills 2 by me (Both Dropped in their tracks) and 1 by a buddy (Shot him in the chest. Hes new to hunting) but i take my knife each time and carve a notch into the stock since its cheap who cares.<----- Best part right there. I also tend to use my bow more then anything

I use a Winchester Model 70 30.06. It is stainless with the composite stock. I got a great deal on that gun from a friend many years ago.

For glass I have a Nikon 4x16 with the 50 mm reticle. It is overkill on the magnification but it sure does provide a bright picture at sunrise!

This year a 6mm, a .30-06 and a 7mm WSM for deer. All my hogs were shot with .243 WSSM.
