I love duck hunting and am far from a pro. I was just wandering what choke y'all used for duck hunting? I use a modified most of the time as I usually hunt private areas and most shots are close.

IM, M and IC.. just depends on the pattern your looking for.. I always patter my gun with the shells ill be using in the season.
I have hunted almost everyday of my life, the rest have been wasted..

I have been shooting modified more this year (goose fields) than my normal IC. I have screwed in a cylinder choke a couple of times for in your face type shots on really small water.

I have IC right now, but not a lot of difference between it and Mod with Expert steel shot. At about 40 yards, the pattern starts breaking up and the velocity goes down. I can hear my pellets hit and bounce off a duck at about 50 yards.

Typically, I use a Pure Gold improved cylinder, which actually is a modified choke for steel. When the ducks aren't decoying well and the shots are 35 yards or better, I switch to a Kick's full.
I puffed a drake mallard with my Kick's full yesterday. He was willing to get closer than the rest and he paid dearly. The duck was an awful sight.

I can get another 10 yards out of the mod choke Vs. the IC, but I kill most of my ducks up close and personal and don't like the damage the Mod Choke does.
It is a trade off....

And, I could probably get another 5 yards on top of the 10 if I went to a full choke. Again, I shoot most of mine up close.

One of my buddies shoots 2 3/4" with his old pump shotgun with full choke barrel. He does just fine.

i choke everytime i get 2 or 3 ducks flying past the decoys. I choke and shoot behind them...
