Buddy of mine at work is looking to load 60gr. Nosler Partitions in .223/5.56 AR with 16" 1:9twist barrel.
Any of you guys have a good load that would help him out?
Also he was asking me about reloading for the AR with Lake City once fired brass, if there was any issues that come to mind?
I have never loaded for an AR or with military brass so im short on good advice, any info would be appreciated.
I know you need to swag primer pocket/remove primer crimps and full length size, but are there any other issues?

I would be wary of 60 grains in 1:9, 1:8 might be called for. Lake City brass is great for the AR15, but does require more effort to get the brass ready to load. I use a Hornady tool to cut the crimp off the primer pocket, it's mounted in a RCBS Case prep tool which makes it easier, but still hard on the hands. Just gotta do it once though...

I shoot the 60 grain partitons in a 1:12 remington with great results.
My load is 60 grain Np over 22 grains of H-benchmark in rem brass.
It shoots raged holes out of my 700 adl and has proven to be a very effective deer/hog gun for me, I have never recovered one from an animal including shots breaking both shoulders.

YOu will need to reduce the load for LC brass, but my 22 grain load isnt a max load either. In an AR application he may want to find somethign with 100% load density..

I have never been able to find acceptable accuracy with the 60gr Nolser Partition. Try the 65gr Sierra. They work great!

I'm with 30378, in that I just couldn't quite make the Partition shoot as well as I wanted. My 223, with 1 in 9 twist, really shot the 65 gr Sierra GK well. That's a good bullet. That said, if I was shooting big pigs or deer with a 223 (which I don't do anymore), I'd prefer the 60 gr Partition.

In a 1:9" twist, you can stabilize up to a 68/69 grain bthp. You might be able to stabilize a 70 to 75 grain lead soft point flat base bullet. It's the bullet length that determines stability, not the actual weight. So, the longer the bullet, the more twist needed to stabilize it. Generally, the heavier bullets weigh more. Any of your common 223 powders will work well. Remember, most reloading data is for a 223 at 52K psi. Most AR's are 5.56 chambers, which can handle 62K psi. You can normally load over 223 data for a 5.56 AR. But with military brass, you will need to reduce it by about 1 to 1.5 grains.

Why is that?....thicker brass, reduced case volume?

LC brass in 556 often has the same internal volume as commercial brass.

Not sure about the guys who couldnt get them to shoot, mine shoot well with several different powder charges. I would take a little less accuracy for the performance of the partition over a standard cup and core on game.

And I have gotten the partitions to shoot well (<1.5 inch 5 shot group) in 1-9 16in ar a 1-7 14.5 inch ar and a 1-12 22 inch bolt gun. They all had different powder charges and the bolt gun had a longer coal than the AR's but all shot well and were loaded with H335 or Wc 844

I also have found LC brass to have a bit more capacity than commercial brass---last time I checked it, anyway.
