I just got back this afternoon from a hunt at Thompson Temple's. I had read several reviews and many were not just negative, but plain derogatory, and quite frankly, WRONG. I would like today that my experience was phenomenal. I was treated greatly and Mr Temple never stopped asking if there was anything he could do for me. There was another group there who have been going to Mr Temple's for 5 yrs. I was treated like family and included in everything. I saw a couple of huge rams taken and every other was very respectable. Everyone there had a chance at a ram and there was one 12 year old boy who stalked a ram with his brother, making it his first kill. I thought the cabins were nice as well. I harvested a Texas Dall Ram and I could not be prouder of my first ram. My experience was so exceptional, Before I left,I made arrangements to go back for a second ram in just three weeks and my family intends to go as well. I would recommend this hunt to any person, young, old, experienced, or a first-timer, and I have already recommended Thompson Temple multiple times already. In conclusion, I would rate this a ten out of ten, AND CHEAP. Good luck and hope you give him a try.

Nice first post and Ive heard mixed emotions about his place but I never judge off others responses, It looks like I may need to see this place though and would make a great first kill trip for my 4 yo boy and his Crossbow. Glad you had a good time and enjoyed your hunt.

It would be an ideal father-son hunt and a great chance to get a good first animal at a very reasonable price. While I was there, a man shot a nice catalina ram with his bow. Good luck.

Congrats. I have heard good and bad, but I would like to see those big horn hybrids he has.

For the price i think i may have to check it out.

Think it would cost me almost as much in gas though as it would for the ram...

Thank you. I am excited to go back in three weeks. My little brother will be joining me to take his first large animal (not birds or frogs).

SpeedyD - I agree completly. I have had 2 great hunting opportuinites with Thompson and he genuinely is a great guy. I've made a few posts on his behalf as well. Already have a trip planned again next year. Congrats and post a pic of the Dall.

I've never been but based on the more negative than positive reviews, I think I'll spend my money elsewhere.
But glad you enjoyed it.

I'm just throwing out another positive follow up on my comment for Thompson. I've been twice. Last year the accomodations were very rough (although I don't mind). This year they were much better. The a frame cabin where we stayed(Colorado Casa) was clean and the a/c was blasting. The trailer (Cowboy Casa) had a new wooden deck, and renovated bathrooms. The hunts can be as easy or difficult as you care to make them. My brother shot a ram at 150 yds from the observation deck (no different that shooting a deer in a Sandero from a box blind) & I shot a giant Merino with my 30-30. I chose to chase him spot & stalk and had a great time. For a reduced price hunt , my Merino was $500, and a place where you are pretty much guarenteed to be successful - I score the place very high. I won't ever be able to afford a big trip and risk taking a week or more, spending 4 times the money and 'hope' everything works out. I don't like the gut pile either, but all things considered and the fact that Thompson really is a nice guy who does his best to encourage the kids and all, I'm going back every year. I don't understand why the fact that it's an easy economy hunt gets the negative spin. I'm going on a Whitetail trip with a different Outfitter this Dec and I have been getting pics from the trail cam and will be in a box blind, like a vast majority of other deer hunters... I guarentee that at the end of that trip, I will have worked harder for the Merino on Thompsons, than the Whitetail with the other outfitter.

This Ram was only $500....'nuff said for me.

Shooting sheep in a pen with a dump for accomodations sounds like a great time.

I went a few years back. As far as the stay it was fine. We had a big group of friends and all took a ram with a bow. The guy seemed nice enough, but what got me was when I picked out the ram I wanted to go after and almost got close enough to poke it with my arrow. That just pretty much ruined me on any kind of pen hunt. I went higher up on the hill and actually found a few a bit more wild that felt more like hunting. I wouldn't go back...

No kickback. I'm just a very satisfied customer who is promoting a great experience.

And it is what you make of it. The observation deck is absolutely no different than hunting at a deer feeder. And there is the option to spot and stalk. Mr Temple is a very nice guy and he will do what it takes to ensure that you enjoy yourself.

The best testimony I can give is to give my experiences. My first hunt, I shot a nice Texas Dall where the whole trip cost me $270, three weeks later, this past weekend, I shot a very nice Corsican, again $270. I am again going to Thompson Temple's in just over a month.

actually, there IS a difference.... the deer actually run away if they see you!! ive been to thompsons ONCE i hesitated to shoot anything, but this was years ago when i first started bowhunting.... i cant comment on if he improved the accomodations, but i can tell you that it is NOT a hunt when he takes flakes of alfalfa and the animals follow him to it, he drops it on the ground, then walks off.... 30 minutes later the "hunter" shoots it from his "blind".... ill hunt high fence any day of the week, but not one like that.... if thats what you like, by all means im happy for you....but dont portray it as a "hunt" because it is NOT a hunt.... and people need honest reviews.
congrats on your kills and im happy you enjoyed it.... this is just my opinion

With the $900+ dollars Speedy D spent killing livestock he could have gotten on a lease somewhere...

I know a guy that went there a few years ago. He said that he spooked a sheep out of a ground blind that he was just about to get into and had one eating feed right outside the front door of the shack they were staying in.

Sounds similar to hunt we went on, huh mark. Honk the horn, sheep come running, ole boy shoots 2 or 3 arrows at it while it stands there wondering wth hit him. now THAT was hunting!
