Folks, my dad is coming out to my lease this weekend to do some hog hunting. I saw pigs a few times during deer season, but there was no pattern to it. Our feeders have been empty for a few months now. Do you have any recommendations for what my best chance is to put him on some pigs? Should I just corn some roads or is there some better attractant out there these days?
I'll get to the lease late Friday and we'll be hunting Saturday.
Thanks.

Corning the roads might help but check the pasture for sign of fresh rooting and corn those areas also.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

if you haven't been feeding, any pigs you are going to get is going to be a happenstance.
i always keep one feeder running in case someone wants to hunt pigs or axis.
i keep it set for about 20 min before dusk to feed in the evenings only
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Hire a midget to wear a sexy girl pig suit. Sorry, couldn't help myself. Honestly, corn the areas where you see sign and sprinkle some sweetened Kool Aid mix over the corn. We have the best luck using strawberry or tropical punch.
Old age ain't for sissies!

You don't want them, go on a day hunt. Cheaper in the long run.

If there's any way you can get out there a couple of days ahead of time (or have a friend do it for you), put out a bunch of very fragrant grub. Either mix jello powder in with corn or have some soured corn out there.
If they're anywhere in the vicinity, the smell will eventually reach them and they'll hit it.
Odd still aren't great, but it'll help.

Sour some corn in a 5 gal bucket for a few days.
Here's what I've done in the past:
5 gal paint bucket from lowes with lid Fill about 3/4 of the way with corn Top it off with some water, mix in a few old beers if you have any laying around Let it sit in direct sun until the weekend. Before you pour it out feel free to sprinkle some strawberry jello on top
How many days do you have for the hunt? You could also try setting up a pig pipe earlier in the week to get them coming around.

Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

I use to have a lot of Piggies, would get pictures of 30 or 40 in the field all the time. Trapped and eliminated 14 of them during the summer, very seldom see signs or get pics of them now.
And thats the way I hope it stays, one every now in then is fun, to many porkers, No Bueno!

One good way to make them stay in the area is to get a post hole digger and go down a couple feet then put a bunch of sugary stuff in it. Cool Aid really does work well because the sent travels good. If they have to dig down to something that they can smell it takes them a while and they tend to hang around.

I've got how to not attract them figured out pretty well. They will be in the area then I show up and they vanish. Day after I leave they will be back.

When we used to trap and hunt a lot of them and they'd get shy, I soak some 5 gal buckets with water and Cherry Jello powder in them..It's inexpensive and they seem to really go nuts for the red Jello's...Good luck w/ your Pop...we always enjoy our buds

Saw this in the March issue of Cedar Post (TPWD new letter)
"Hog Bait by Mary Humphrey If you don’t already have feral hogs on your property, it’s generally not a matter of “if” you’ll end up with them, but rather “when”. Some folks see them as a huntable resource, while others consider them nothing more than a complete nuisance. There are various methods of hunting and trapping that can be used to reduce the population of hogs. Box traps are an ideal way to trap multiple animals as long as the trap is placed between two or more areas of high use such as rooting or bedding sites, along fencelines, or near known hog trails. Hogs will eat most anything, but soured corn seems to work well for attracting hogs while limiting non-target animals. Pre-baiting is essential so that hogs are going into the trap freely before actually setting the trap.
Soured corn recipe: ½ sack of corn ½ sack of cow cubes 6-pack of cheap beer 4-6 pkgs. of strawberry/cherry/raspberry jello Dry yeast – enough of 1 pkg. to start mixture fizzing ½ gal. Evolved Habitats® Pig Out® liquid – adds sweet taste (Ferment mixture in tub for 1 to 1-1/2 weeks) Can stagger production if feeding out of tubs."
