Been working with Chad (thebbc) with Titan Weapons on this and its finally ready to fire... This started out as a standard savage 111 LRH in 338 lapua. Now its a 30-338 lapua improved. The case was necked down and then ackley improved to a 40 deg. shoulder. The round on the right is a standard 338 lapua.. the left is a standard 300 RUM.. the middle is the 300 lapua imp. Even though it only has about 5-6gr H20 cap over the rum its pressure is so much higher it will handle A LOT more and its in a fairly short OAL. comparing the case head of the RUM and Lapua you can see the gain.. even more once we blew the taper out of the case. I am guessing the 225 hornady at 3250-3300fps. I will find out next week. heres the rifle... Still waiting on some parts..really just the stock... but the end result will be: savage action cerakote black. Broughton 5C ss fluted 32" JP brake Manners T2 STOCK NF RAIL/RINGS Vortex pst 6-24x50 FFP I can't say enough about Chad..Titan weapons.. this is the third rifle I have had built with him. and actually have another in the wings.. (ill post it once done) As far as communication and turn around time plus the workmanship.. can't be beat!

Wow! 32" barrel with that caliber! That's smokin'! I'm playing with the 225's now in my rebarreled TRG 42 in 300WM. I'm getting right at 2804 fps with the load I like. 450+ fps faster, that's insane!
What powder and how many grains- Retumbo, H50BMG to about 105 grains or so, I'm guessing?

You hit it right on the nail.. I am going to start with Retumbo.. and I would say exactly right.. it will (I'm guessing) top out at 105gr.(maybe even slightly more) But I am planning on trying 50bmg and 869 as well.. even though I might can reach 3250/3300 something tells me the accuracy node and case life will be right around 3200fps. I bet i can fire w/o pressure 112 ish gr. of 869....
yep.. 32" was not needed.. but I am pretty sure i will have to set this back at some point.. lol. hence why I went long...

Ok! 50BMG would be a good pick. It's the slowest powder in Hodgdon's extreme line of temp insensative powders. I'd try it first and Retumbo. I set my 260 Rem barrel back 2" at the chamber and 1" at the muzzle about a month ago. It was a 1/4 moa rifle before groups opened up some and speeds decreased. Now, it's running right at 1/3 moa (just under an inch at 300 yards) and still slow. So, this will be the last barrel I set back. From now on, I will always put on a new one! I have 3 new one's in the garage just waiting. I think barrels are like tires on a car.

Wow! That's a lot of powder just to fire form! I would think 70 to 80 grains of 4350 or 4831 with a 165 grain SP would work well. I would need to run the numbers to know for sure.

Looks good with that legnth barrel and a slow powder it should be one impreasivr rig. Probally smart to go with AI for caselife. Curious how the case capacity of this one compares to the 30-378?

It was a lot of powder.. but I am getting dies made off of the cases so I needed it to be blown! lol... it was overkill.. i know.
The case cap of the 30-378 weatherby is more.. but this being based on lapua brass.. my guess is it will actually be right at if not beat the weatherby with less powder..

Well.. I ran some fire formed rounds through the chrono.. I only had a few (will have more results Monday/Tuesday.. But 107gr H-50bmg under a 225gr hornady = 3205fps. NO PRESSURE SIGNS I think its getting close though.. I'm thinking top out at (safely) at 109ish But heck.. even at 3200fps.. the ballistics are pretty impressive.. roughly 5100lbs at muzzle and w/ a 100 yd zero 18.5 MOA at 1000 and subsonic past 2k... Im doing all this testing using hornady brass.. then when it comes to loading the real thing in Lapua brass I won't get in trouble.. cause that stuff is tuff! FULLY formed round with 225 hornady.. next to a standard 338 lapua.

No target is safe. I burn a bit of 50BMG powder but that is out of a 50BMG

I bet you run a lot more than 107gr. too... Yeah it will reach out there.. but the real fun begins when testing for accuracy.. .... probably end of next week I will hopefully group it.

My hunting Bud Mark Mishnick has a Sako 30-378 Wthrby...and we load 180 grain Barnes X w/ about 117 to 122 grains of BMG..he gets touching hole groups and very little recoil...good break.. But the noise is so bad that standing behind him about 10 ft. w/plugs..its loud and almost blows my hat off...A guy had a voice act. mach on the 2nd Skeet field from us and it went on automatic when he fired it...and it costs about $4.50 a round if you purchase ammo..and his brass is more than the Lapua...I want a 338 Lapua L/H...Dirt

Yep, 30-378 is not cheap to run.. plus it has a much longer OAL. and your right lapua isn't cheap but weatherby...$$$$.
I was considering selling my edge and building a 338 lapua improved (same ackley 40deg) case life and gain in velocity.. but my edge is shooting one ragged hole at 2870.. didn't see any reason to build a whole new rig to gain 60-80fps.
But if I did.. i would go improved..

Brass life on the improved makes it worthwhile Couldn't agree more, I hate trimming brass.
