1/5-9/2012 It' was a tough and hard hunt to say the least! Hunting hogs here in Fannin county on 2000acr's, in the heart of Bois'D Arc bottom has always been pretty easy. Especially when it is "privet land", and your feeding out nearly 100,lbs of corn a day at each spot you hunt. We were able to get lucky and run across this hog you see in this picture here. Tyler's first hog, and he was excited to say the least (He is the one on the right). The rest of the group (they drove 1200 miles to shoot a hog) seen nothing, well they did get to see our new problem! Hog dogs,,,, trespassing thieves that know what they are doing. Knowing this has happen a few times now in the past two months. We heard them as they were running the hogs, and did catch sight of one person with a light, but was not able to catch him/them THIS TIME! This was a wonderful way to start the new year out. The laws are very strict on this,( Trespassing with hunting dogs) and when we catch you, and we will! You will be prosecuted! I look forward to meeting you!

Dont let those dogs "growl" at you more than once if they are trespassing.

Who's place are you hunting up here? I don't live that far and may be able to help in some way. If it's the Johnson place I am only 2 miles from there. Shoot me a PM

Just make sure you catch the people, and don't shoot any dogs. Being a hog hunter myself, I know that shooting a hunting dog, trespassing or not, is a good way to spend some time in jail and having to pay a fine. Good luck on catching the trespassers though!

Take in to consideration though, just because the dog is a "hog dog" does not make it have an aggressive nature toward people. My dogs get a long great with kids & adults, even my bulldogs.

Is it a requirement that the dog be aggressive before you can shoot it on your property or as land owner/leasee do you have the right to shoot a stary on your property?
Just asking.
Joe

From my understanding, the dog must be aggressive towards a human or livestock before you can shoot it. As far as my dogs go, I can walk them through cows, goats, horses, deer, etc. and they will not bother them.

you just cant shoot any hunting dog or house dog if it on yur land .if it destroys property, kills live stock or tries to bite you then you can kill it. and i always tell all the land owners around me that im hunting.i hope i never get a dog shot.but in tx you cant just shoot a dog on yur property anymore

What M Bennet said. You can't go shooting dogs just because they're on your property, and the "growl more than once" BS won't hold up in court when you're talking about a dog that most likely is owned by a family man with kids.

Wow is all I can say, I cant believe there are this many people that support shooting a dog for just being on there land running hogs or not. This reminds me of a story an ole man told me. They was hunting hogs with dogs and the neighboring land owner stopped and told the ole man that if them dogs get on my land im gonna shoot em, The ole man replied if you shoot my dogs Ill cut your fence between every post, gut shoot all your cows, and beat ya with a chain. Watch out for the crazy people they are out there. Plus the civil and criminal charges that will be brought against you wouldnt be worth killing a dog.

It's assumed domesticated dogs are kenneled up or contained to properties they belong. Wild dogs cross property lines in pursuit of females or animals.

So... it's OK for someone to let their dogs loose, go through others property and there is nothing that can be done to the dog? Sorry, if someone is hunting my land without my permission, the only thing I can do is file charges on the guy hunting? No wonder some have no respect for others property!
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

thats why i hunt big ranches, and if i want to hunt somebodys land i would ask first.but my dogs cant read and they cross a 50 acre spot going through and get shot.we would be less one person on this planet. just last saturday 20 yr old guy deer hunting had a hog dog come by his feeder .he calls his dad and the dad says smoke him,so the boy did.dog owner calls gamewarden and young man tells gw he called his dad and hes dad says smoke him.so now the man is looking at 1 to 2 in jail and he has to pay back for the cost of dog and its a felony.the bad deal is this land owner gave him promission to come get his dogs if they get over on him.the young man even said he could see tracking callor and cut callor. dog hunter will win cause he shot from a blind in side and the dog was at the feeder.
