The boarder is safe we own and hunt a ranch outside of laredo and have not had a problem in 50+ years. Yes we see illegals quite often, but never a problem. txhntr when was the last time you hunted down there?

More power to ya, although I am getting less and less sypathetic for people who willingly put themselves in that position hunting in Mexico or on the border. You hear the stories, you see the death toll rising, I may not be the smartest man in the world, but I do realize if you put yourself in that situation your just asking from trouble.

Twice a year for 8 years, a group of us have gone down for camping, fishing, shooting, etc. I have three buddies that have ranches, or access to ranches, on the border.

I believe it!
A friend of ours has 4,000 acres on the border and he realized after a month that he couldn't leave anything down there because if he did it would be stolen. It's awesome hunting, but dang the risk.
My brothers bestfriend is a pipe line welder and they're in Pearsall working right now and have had several welders killed by drug runners. Killed them, took their welding truck, hooked up to their travel trailer and were gone before anyone knew it.
You can run but you can't hide...

All this just equates to taking control of your own land; if we continue to allow this crap this will only escalate. Time to take action and send back to Mexico some bodies.

Guess I better reconsider heading to Laredo next week. Go and enjoy yourself; unless it’s a pregnant woman and a man named Joseph going to Bethlehem I’d make sure I had a bead drawn on them. I’m sure there is a one in a million chance of that happening to you too. I wouldn’t let scum bags keep me from enjoying my hunt.

to all the BS callers There are a lot of bad cartel stuff the media can't/wont show on the news. It's not just down on the border, there have been cartels as far north as Kansas. A good friend of mine is a sheriff and said that often the news station gets videos yes videos of the cartels violence. The news stations can't show them due to being so graphic. For example 2 rival cartels went in to a bar in Dallas, TX and started throwing heads at people in the bar and sent the video to the news and they sent it to law enforcement.they are having a competition to see wich group can come up with the most brutal way to mutilate a body.Be very cautionary around cars with any of the catholic saints or tweety bird stickers on cars as those are some of the signs the drug mules are using. Take these stories as warnings if you want or not. I am just making a point that there is a lot more going on than the public knows.

Have a buddy that's a cop. He has a video on his computer of some dude that works for the drug lords driving hacked up people out in the desert and throwing the pieces to vultures. Really, really terrible and disturbing.
But the dude wasn't on a burro, for crying out loud.

Why did he walk to town did he not have a truck? How did they find his stand in the dark? What makes the border more dangerous than going down town in Dallas Houston there where more murders last year in those two cities than the border down south. I guess you can't leave home just hide under the covers. Im not sure where you get the numbers to say more murders happen in Dallas or Houston than on the border in mexico. In Ciudad Juarez every year alone since 2006 there have been at least 3,000 murders in that one city alone and well over 30,000 across borders towns. Im pretty positive that our cities dont come close to those numbers. Its a war down there if you havent heard.

Your making an assumption they could hit anything with those AK-47s. If they cornered me at Point Blank range then okay, they win. They give me 50 or more yards and some of them are going to be missing heads. Funny how a guy will get up and run when he sees his buddies head explode. The problem here is you are going to have to shoot first and ask questions later. Until the word gets out people probably do not realize what is going on. Also the brush is pretty thick down there and they probably map out their route to stay concealed until they get close. I would say at 200 yards it might be worth trying to take one out. One AR with a 30 round+ clip can be a real problem unless you are in an armored plated blind.

Last year some friends and I were contemplating a trip to the border in Hudspeth county. We had in mind to follow up on some local legends and look for an area down there that is also sort of a geologic anomaly. We called the sheriff's department down there and he told us first, not to do it, but if we DID do it, carry firearms and if we saw anybody that wasn't border patrol to HIDE. Bad stuff has been going on down there and other parts of the border and we don't hear about it in the news because it's not politically correct, would rock the boat, who knows what. Whether this story is true or not, there are documented stories that are similar and way worse than this one. It's not just Texas either, Arizona and New Mexico have their share of troubles. In fact, most gold prospecting groups will tell you straight up not to go near the border if you value your life!
It's a dang shame. Makes you want to do something about it, but, you should understand who you're dealing with or you will get your [censored] handed to you. If you're that lucky!
