We went down the past two weekends to do some hunting at our place. We dont have any of what we are calling a tropy catagory of deer at a harvesting age yet, but have several older culls dominating the feeders that needed to be taken out to give our younger deer with more potential room.

I got this guy at 7:15 opening morning, is a 7pt aged at 5.5. The deer came out early before light, I could see the buck, and knew it as one we wanted to shoot so I was already getting excited. There was a handfull of does and a 4.5 yo 10pt out there with them. The 7 chased the 10 and does off of the feeder and they moved towards the blind. Right after the feeder went off, the deer startled at something behind me down the sendero snorted and ran. I figured the morning was bust, but my feeder maid was the first to return within about 10 minutes. I shot behind the shoulder and he droped on the spot kicked a bit and got back up, I freaked out a bit, but could see the blood running down his side. So I held off the second shot, he looped around a tree then ran right back into the sendero and colapsed smack dab in the middle of the road 50 yards closer to the blind than where I shot him.



This is a buck/stag my brother shot this past weekend, had no balls and never looses velvet, and a coyote he got.




This is 4.5 yo 8pt dad shot, He is 16 inch wide. I have him boiled for a Euro, just havent scored him yet, thinking mid 120's, He has prettly long beams they hook way in and good mass.


They arent trophies in everyones eyes, but they sure are in ours! It was a great weekend with the family hunting our little piece of heaven.

culls or trophies dont matter, its the time spent with family that REALLY matters. Nice deer!

They truely are trophies to us, after hunting his entire life, that is my dads biggest buck. We have bigger running around we have seen and have on cams, but they are still younger and we are trying to let them go. For us owning our own property has brought a whole new perspective to hunting, we are much more patient and interested in what we can to to benefit our deer the most. Its so hard to let walk what would easily be your best deer, but knowing what he could become makes it worth it for us. We have seen several deer progress over 4 years and it is cool to see what they turn into. We have not been able to recognize either of these deer from last year, but since we have fed all year protein and corn we are seeing alot of different deer that we have pulled from neighbors, I believe both of these deer were pulled in for the feed and water.

We just bought our little ranch in September of 2010. It has been an awesome experience preparing the land for our hunting. It's always exciting to check the cameras and see the potential the season has in store for us. We have only 96 acres, but it's in South Texas and in a decent area. We have decided to only shoot one buck (a 4.5 to 5.5 year old, mid 120's) and two doe this year. The only problem though is that our neighbors to the east of us (500 acres) have leased it out and it has sounded like WWIII coming out of there. I'm worried that the hunters there are going to kill most of the deer we've been watching the past two years. That buck we are after would be a real trophy to anyone in our family. I just hope it's one of us that gets him first or that he survives this year.

That bottom 8 is a brute!

Unless you know the neighbors, you can't control what they do. Just keep concentrating on your place and good things will happen. you need to shoot a couple of does for each of the bucks you take. The does supply part of the genetics also, so the older does need to be culled just like the bucks.

You got a couple of good racks, got a cull out of the herd and put lots of meat in the freezer with a yote as a bonus. Sounds like a good time so far. Congratulations to you all.

Little blast from the past. I know the pictures aren't there anymore, but the 7 scored 105 I believe as a 6pt and the 8 scored 129 7/8

Been slow this season. Good numbers but little buck movement.

Ha,I just glanced at the date of the OP, so you've had your own place in (I guess) South Texas for eight years now? How has antler size changed in that time?

I'm not the OP, but we've owned our 96 acres since the 2010 season. Not only has antler size improved, but overall number of deer has increased too. The first season, we only had a couple of spikes and a tiny 4 pointer. We had maybe 4 doe. Now we have at least 8 to 10 bucks and around 12 to 15 doe with at least two sets of yearling twins. In those 6 seasons, we've killed 2 doe and 4 bucks. Two of those bucks this season. We plan on shooting around 2 to 3 doe this season.
