Is an awesome knife. Gerber stands behind their products. I lost the fire starter that comes with the knife. I called Gerber and left a message. It wasnt 5 minutes later they called me back, wanted my address to send me the part free of charge. That is awesome. I own 3 Gerber Knives and highly recommend that company.

I would recommend for the same price as the Bear Grylls knife, the SOG Seal Pup. Its made of carbon steel while the Bear Grylls is made of "high carbon stainless steel" aka its not crabon steel but we have a heck of a marketing department.
Not to get all survivalist with you, but if you want a "survival" knife I wouldnt recommend running around with one that has bright orange on it.

bright orange/ well that would be a good color for people to see. its not a combat situation. Its an I am lost kinda thing... I would recommend for the same price as the Bear Grylls knife, the SOG Seal Pup. Its made of carbon steel while the Bear Grylls is made of "high carbon stainless steel" aka its not crabon steel but we have a heck of a marketing department.

I've got this knife also and like it alot. You really can't go wrong with Gerber. They have well made knives and the prices are always reasonable. I think I saw this knife on sale for 39.99 on the Walmart black Friday ad

I love how a company ships off its manufacturing, won't tell you what type of steel they use, but will happily pay a tv personality to endorse their products.
No thanks, Gerber.

I dont think I'd trust anything with Bear Grylls name on it.... Yes he is a self promoting doucher. I can't beleive he made it through SAS school. Or at least I heard he did. I also understand he is a vegan.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a knife. I was recently looking for a good survival type knife and did alot of research on the ones I could afford. The reviews I saw for the Bear Grylls were pathetic. On more than a few occasions the pummel on the end of the knife would fall off when you would try to use it. I ended up just playing it safe and buying a K-Bar and it is made in the U.S.

I got one and as far as staying sharp its junk. I sharpened mine til it would shave the other night put it back in the sheath and pulled it out a couple of days later and guess what it dont shave anymore. I guess its catching the sheath when going in and coming out and dulling the blade, but not impressed either way.
Now the other stuff like fire starter, which works good, the holes for tying to make a spear are goods things about it if you were to be lost, but overall not that great.

Its true that Gerber has seemed to abandon the idea of manufacturing in the US. But I have a Bear Grylls knife and I still like it. Not the same quality as American made, but that may just be in my own mind.

I'm not a Gerber fan anymore. The original LMF/BMF were excellent American made knives. The Shorty was another great knife. Now they offer chicom crap in my opinion. The last Gerber folder I had was pure trash. The screws got loose in less than six months. Sloppy, poorly built junk.
