Looks like this weekend is going to be a little rainy for our place. When do you guys see the most deer activity? Before, during, or after the storms? I'm probably not going to try to get down there Thursday the day before the rain comes through because of high winds, I don't figure the deer are going to want to move/feed much because of that.

Right after a good rain, or even during a light rain.

I have hunted in the rain and had very good luck. As long as it does not rain to hard they will move ok. Sometimes they move better during the rain due to the cooler temps. High winds not so good though.

If you have several days of non-stop rain/drizzle paired with cold weather you will definitely have good movement immediately after the rain stops. I've seen moderate movement during light rain but no movement during heavy rain.

That's going to be the only thing that hinders movement this weekend. Looks like 18mph winds Thursday, 16 Friday and Saturday, then 13 Sunday. Oh well, I'm going to sit and wait anyways.

This weekend is my first to get out, I'm going hell or high water. And I'll believe that forecast when I feel the first raindrop!

Dangit. Got two punches in one. Vehicle stuck, and the deer started moving after you had left.

Your question brings to mind a particular morning two seasons ago when I had climbed down out of my tripod stand during a morning hunt to get out of an unexpected rain shower. After it passed, I walked over and began climbing the short ladded back into it. The stand overlooked a food plot that was only visible once you got above all the ground cover that surrounded it. About half-way up the climb, I turned around only to see a young buck that had already began stepping into the food plot.

Simple mistake, but ever since that happened to me, I've never setup a tripod stand so that my back was to the area I was watching while climbing the ladder.

Couldn't agree with this more. Good luck this weekend. Hope to see a picture of a big one a week from now.

Wouldn't bother me. Looks like our best chance is 60 Saturday evening.

They move before and after especially if its a good storm. They'll eat up before a storm even with winds and are hungry after hunkering down during one. I would be out there both times for sure.

I saw one of the best bucks in my life during a thunderstorm with lightning and very heavy rain but it was during the rut.

Only times I've noticed deer to "hang low", is during torrential rain or during sleet storms, but they usually move soon after.

I sleep with a smile when I see a cool rain for Thursday and Friday with temps in the high 30's over night. We had that for opening morning up here and I had 30 deer pass by me in the first 2 hours I was in my tree. Wind affects them more than raid in my opinion, I think they prefer to stay still since thier #1 sense is not at thier advantage.

This week will not be so good up here, clear skies, temps in the mid to high 70's during the day with mid 40's at night. They will all be going noctural till the temps drop again.

I agree a 100%, when a big front is moving in there is a flurry of activity before the front hits and rights after.

I'm not sure in the panhandle if any weather keeps them down. I've seen them moving in every kind of weather. Wind for sure don't keep them down. If it did they would never move here. Matter of face I seen about 25 deer Saturday evening with the wind blowing about 25 to 30 felt like.

My first year hunting, last day of season, 25 mph south winds, 8pt spread outside the ears. Don't get excited, no happy ending some jagoff decided to skeet shoot in a hunt only zone 60yrds from me. Looked like one of those bugs bunny cartoons when the hair spins in the wind from him leaving so fast. I did get some nice lead rain welts before I could get out of there though.

Like Uncle Ted says, thers no rules to hunting, but get out there and HUNT!!!

This sums it up for me - Right after a good rain, or even during a light rain.
